The police has ordered Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's dialogue with NGOs at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today to be cancelled on security grounds.
"In the interest of public safety and national harmony, the police orders the dialogue at PWTC this morning to be cancelled," said inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar on Twitter.
His Twitter post appeared at about 8.55am, about five minutes before the programme was scheduled to begin.
At PWTC, there are no signs that the event has been cancelled and about 1,500 people have already taken their seats.
Najib has yet to arrive, but there is a string of VIPs present, including Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan, former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said and Kelantan Football Association Chairperson Annuar Musa.
But most importantly, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has also arrived. He is currently waiting at the VIP holding room.
Other developments:
Despite being billed as "Nothing to hide", the event is not opened to the media. The press must leave the hall after the opening ceremony.
Mahathir arrived at about 8.50am. He did not use the main entrance and was brought to the VIP holding room. |

KUALA LUMPUR: Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad arrived to attend the Nothing2Hide public dialogue with the Prime Minister but the event was called off.
This follows the orders of the Inspector-General of Police.
In his tweet at about 8.50am on Friday, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the event at Putra World Trade Centre was cancelled due to public safety.
Earlier, members of the media were not allowed to take photos but told to leave the hall as it would be a closed-door event.
Local NGOs such as Perkasa as well as several bloggers showed up for the session.
Among those present were Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan and former Terengganu mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
Najib and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) faced criticisms for debts which were said to have been incurred by the investment body.
Dr Mahathir had questioned 1MDB's proposed restructuring plan.
“There is too much evidence of cover-ups by politicians and civil servants,” he had posted on his blog chedet.cc.
“I hope the restructuring will help but unless the lost money is returned, paying off the debt will absolve no one,” he added.
The Nothing2Hide question-and-answer session at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn is organised by the Malaysian Volunteer Lawyers Association (SukaGuam).
It is meant to give participants from non-governmental organisations, bloggers and the media a chance to ask Najib questions.
These include issues about the controversial 1MDB and the Goods and Services Tax.
