n 2019 and 2020, the Netherlands is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. One of the first events took place on 31 August in Terneuzen (Zeeland). King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima currently make a state visit to the Republic of India at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind. Today, the King and the Queen arrived in New Delhi, and were welcomed by Minister of Railways of India at New Delhi Airport.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are currently making a state visit to the Republic of India at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind. The state visit began in New Delhi, where President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the King and Queen at the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace. After the welcoming ceremony, flowers were strewn at the Raj Ghat monument, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The King and Queen then met with the Minister of External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
On the evening of the first day of their state visit to India, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended a state banquet hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace in New Delhi.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited Mumbai. The King and Queen first visited Tiny Miracles, an organisation which creates sustainable employment and at the same time provides employees with healthcare and education. The objective of the organisation is to alleviate the poverty in communities living in poor neighbourhoods in Mumbai and help them to be self-reliant.
In the afternoon, the King and Queen attended the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) High-Level Discussion, where leading Indian businesses and investors spoke about current and future investments in the Netherlands. Afterwards, the King and Queen attended the 3rd Indo-Dutch Port Forum, which promotes cooperation between Dutch and Indian ports, port authorities and port developments.
The King and Queen then visited the Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum to attend the opening of the exhibition ‘Indo-Dutch Connections in the Age of Rembrandt’.
