jom tengok  malaysia kat uber cup lak ....

group stage
ok ... dah sah2 la kalah ngan china kan ...
nak menang ngan india pun susah gak walaupun tak mustahil ... kena menang both WD dah satu single ....
tee jing yi mmg tak leh menang ngan saina ....
kena harapkan 2nd & 3rd single .. lydia dan sonia ....

2nd stage

harapan uber team kita tuk qualify sgt rendah ....
anyway ... kita anggap la team muda kita ni gi belajar + cari pengalaman .... ganbatte girls!!!
kalau tak kalah 5 - 0 tu dah kira satu pencapaian ....

Malaysia get a tough draw for qualifier

KUALA LUMPUR: The men’s doubles pairs will have to step up their game if Malaysia are to go beyond the quarter-final stage of the Asian Zone Thomas Cup qualifying tournament, which will be held in Macau from Feb 13-19.

In the draw released by the Badminton Asian Confederation (BAC) yesterday, seniors Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and four back-up players – Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, Hoon Thien How and Teo Kok Siang – will face early stern tests when Malaysia take on South Korea and Indonesia, two nations known for a strong tradition in the doubles.

Malaysia have been drawn in Group D with second seeds South Korea and Hong Kong.

South Korea boast two strong pairs in Lee Yong-dae-Jung Jae-sung and Ko Sung-hyun-Yoo Yeon-seong. Their singles players are Lee Hyun-il, Park Sung-hwan and Shon Wan-ho.

Judging from Malaysia’s line-up, only Lee Chong Wei stands a chance of winning a point in the first singles against Hyun-il.

If Malaysia come out second in Group D, they will face the Group B champions, most likely to be Indo-nesia, in the quarter-finals. Indonesia are in Group B with India, Singapore and Macau.

Indonesia too have listed three strong pairs – Mohd Ahsan-Bona Septano, Markis Kido-Hendra Setia-wan and Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan – who are all are ranked in the top 10 bracket.

Again, only Chong Wei stands a chance of sealing a point from the singles department against Indonesia when he takes on Simon Santoso. The others Indonesian singles shuttlers – Taufik Hidayat, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Tommy Sugiarto – hold a slight edge over Malaysia’s Mohd Hafiz Hashim, Liew Daren and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif respectively.

If Malaysia lose in the quarter-finals, they will have to battle it out with the joint 5th-8th teams in a round robin playoff for the fourth and last ticket available for the Finals, which will be held in Wuhan, China, in May.

The semi-finalists are assured of their places for the Finals. China are assured of their place by virtue of being the defending champions and hosts and the three teams expected to join them in last four are South Korea, Indonesia and Japan.

Kota Kinabalu stint cancelled

THE BA of Malaysia (BAM) has granted the request of the national coaches to cancel the final phase of Thomas Cup and Uber Cup centralised training in Kota Kinabalu next week.

The squads, who will play in the qualifying rounds in Macau on Feb 13-19, were supposed to leave for the one-week stint on Sunday but now BAM secretary Ng Chin Chai has acknowledged that it was an oversight by the management who did not take certain things into consideration.

Chin Chai and his high performance committee members Datuk James Selvaraj and Kol (Rtd) Wong Ah Jit had a meeting with the coaches yesterday and decided to call off the training stint in Kota Kinabalu and instead continue with the preparations at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara.

"The centralised training in Kota Kinabalu has been cancelled and the players will continue training here in Kuala Lumpur," said Chin Chai yesterday.

"It was an oversight by the management as we thought there was a direct flight from Kota Kinabalu to Macau but apparently there isn't one. So we would have had to return to Kuala Lumpur and travel to Macau and we don't want to burden the team.

"Initially, the tournament was supposed to start on Feb 14 but it has been brought forward by one day and there are matches almost everyday until Feb 19. It's a lengthy competition so we have decided to shift the centralised training back to KL.

"It also takes time to adjust whenever we move to a new environment for training."

Chin Chai also said the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup team captains will be selected soon while simulation matches will also be arranged to beef up the preparations.

World No 1 Lee Chong Wei welcomed BAM's decision to cancel the Kota Kinabalu trip as he felt it was too much of a hassle for such a short training stint.

"It was the best decision because the trip is very short and we don't know anything about the condition of the facilities there," said Chong Wei.

"I had also given my feedback to the management when asked about the centralised training there. We don't really have to go there as our facilities and preparations here are very good."

The coaches have been worried that the one week in Kota Kinabalu would only make the players lose focus on their preparations while all the travelling could tire them out but now with BAM's decision they can concentrate on the task ahead in Macau.

tq ... kan rasa ada can kan ....
tuk zon asia ada 5 tiket utk ke final round bulan 5 nanti ... utk both thomas & uber team ...
utk thomas cup china dah ambik satu tiket as defending champion & tuan rumah ...
jadi tinggal 4 tiket jadi rebutan ....
so semua team yg sampai ke semifinal automotik layak la .... tapi  semua pun dah jangka yg one of the semifinalist tu china yg dah qualify, jadi ada la lagi satu tiket yg jadi rebutan team yg kalah kat QF ...
kalau china wat naya kat kita, kalah ngan thailand kat QF ..jadi automotik tiket tu terus dapat kat thailand la ... nangis tak berlagu la kita .....

korea tak antar team uber dorang ke qualifying round sbb dah qualify kan ...tapi china still hantar team ....
jadi dah hampir pasti yg china salah satu team kat SF ... so 3 team lagi kat SF otomatik layak la ...

europe dapat 3 tiket, oceania 1 tiket, afrika 1 tiket & pan-amerika 1 tiket ...
kesemuanye 11 negara ....

2 tahun lepas ada 12 negara competing .... satu tiket extra dipilih antara asia & europe mengikut ranking team tertinggi.
tahun ni aku tak tahu ..... dah cari kat bwf tapi tak jumpa lak ....

Koo-Tan want to lift team’s morale ahead of Thomas Cup qualifier

KUALA LUMPUR: It looks like national doubles shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have done some deep soul searching and emerged enlightened.

Yesterday, a composed and determined Kien Keat and Boon Heong professed their resolve to lift the team’s morale ahead of the Thomas Cup qualifying tournament and also their commitment to revive their own medal hopes at the London Olympic Games.

The Thomas Cup Asian Zone qualifiers will be held in Macau from Feb 13-19 and the London Games from July 28-Aug 12. In between, the world No. 6 pair have several assignments, including two main Super Series events - the All-England and India Open.

The 26-year-old Kien Keat, the older and more experienced of the duo, said he was ready to weave his magic again in the team event to restore the image of the men’s doubles.

Revitalised: Koo Kien Keat (left) and Tan Boon Heong are ready to make amends in the Thomas Cup qualifier after their recent fall from grace.

“There’s something about a team event where I tend to rise to the occasion. These have been difficult times but I am here today with a sincere pledge to give my best for the nation,” he said.

Kien Keat has given spirited displays in each of the four Thomas Cup Finals he has featured in since 2004.

“It’s a heavy responsibility but I don’t want it to be a burden which weighs me down. What’s important is to take the necessary steps in training to improve my physical condition. Boon Heong and I are the underdogs and must work on the right strategies to overcome our higher-ranked opponents,” said Kien Keat.

On the meeting with South Korea in Group D of the qualifiers, Kien Keat said: “We don’t have any phobia against the Korean pairs. I remember playing in my first Finals without any fear. I’m going with the same attitude.”

Despite the hurtful words hurled at Kien Keat-Boon Heong following their spectacular fall from grace, starting with the demoralising quarter-finals defeat the World Championships last year, Kien Keat said they were revitalised and motivated after the heart-to-heart meeting with coaches and the High Performance Team (HPT).

“We have been down but the support from our coaches and officials has been exhilarating. All we have received has been loads of encouragement and this keeps us going,” said Kien Keat.

“Our ultimate goal is the Olympic Games but this doesn’t mean we won’t take the Thomas Cup seriously. It’s important too but our focus is on striking it right in London.”

Boon Heong, who played with Kien Keat in the last two Thomas Cup editions in 2008 (Tokyo) and 2010 (Kuala Lumpur) , said he would do his part to lift the morale of debutant pair Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem and Teo Kok Siang.

The other doubles player in the squad, Hoon Thien How, was also in the team for the last Finals in KL.

“It’s my job to deflect the pressure from the younger players. I will stand by them even if they make mistakes.

“This is a team competition and we need to support one another. I want to do my part to instil confidence in them,” said Boon Heong.

On the possibility of forming scratch partnerships at the qualifier, Boon Heong said: “I’m ready to play with anyone. We try out various partnerships in training so there shouldn’t be any problems.”

Malaysia can harbour hopes of making the cut for the Finals in Wuhan, China, in May if the doubles pairs rise to the occasion together with the singles players led by world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, Only four tickets are available from the Asian Zone qualifiers.

Hendrawan happy with progress shown by Hafiz

PETALING JAYA: After almost two weeks of centralised training at the Juara Stadium, national men’s singles coach Hendrawan is decidedly pleased with the effort and commitment shown by veteran Mohd Hafiz Hashim (pic).

The 29-year-old Hafiz left the national team early last year but was recalled for the Thomas Cup qualifiers in Macau next week because of a severe lack of talent in the singles ranks.

The 2003 All-England champion, although past his best, remains a better player than BAM’s Liew Daren and Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, and Hendrawan believes that Hafiz still has a point to prove.

“I have taken Hafiz under my wing for the past two weeks and he has shown great commitment to the cause,” said the soft-spoken Indonesian.

“I haven’t been pushing him too hard because it is only two weeks since he rejoined us, but he has been doing well in keeping pace with the training.

“In terms of technique and physical strength, I have no complaints regarding his ability. In fact, I noticed a change in his attitude even before he left the national setup.

“Basically, he knows how important it is to qualify for the Thomas Cup Finals and he knows how crucial his role as the second singles is.

“Hafiz has shown a great deal more desire and fire in training. It’s as though he’s out to prove a point. I’m happy with the change he has shown,” said Hendrawan.

Malaysia have an uphill task in the Thomas Cup qualifiers as they are drawn with second seeds South Korea and underdogs Hong Kong.

While Hong Kong should not pose much of a threat, it is against the Koreans that Hafiz really needs to deliver.

The Koreans look unbeatable in the doubles but are vulnerable in the singles. And Hafiz needs to beat either Park Sung-hwan or Shon Wan-ho in the second singles in order for Malaysia to stand a chance of topping the group for easier passge to the Finals.
Hendrawan said that Arif, who could play third singles, is also preparing well.

“Even though he is the reserve, he understands that he may be called upon if necessary. He needs to be ready if he is called into action,” added Hendrawan.

The 22-year-old Arif could see action against Hong Kong as he has a better head-to-head record against Chan Yan Kit, winning twice in all meetings, while Daren has never beaten the third ranked Hong Kong shuttler.

Arif and Daren clash in the simulation matches today and this should give a clearer idea of who should get the crucial third singles role.

BAM harus akui tiada perancangan: Razif

Razif Sidek

“Siapa cakap mudah menang Piala Thomas, memang susah.
