When Zahara bte Ahmad Sarom, 26, saw that nobody on the train would give up their seat to this pregnant woman on a crowded train on Wednesday (22 Nov), she took matters into her own hands. "I asked her loudly how many months pregnant she was. She replied that she was 8 months pregnant," said Zahara. But this blatant hint from Zahara did not stir any reactions from the seated passengers. Appalled by their lack of graciousness, she said: "The healthy adults sitting in front of her just continued to ignore her. No courtesy at all." |

Alcupon was on the Northeast Line heading towards HarbourFront at around 2.15 pm today (Nov 17) when he encountered this group of girls who were 揵lasting out music from their handphone and creating tons of laughter and noise |

Technical Support Officer W H Teo, 59, takes the Northeast Line to work, and on 15 November at 6am, was appalled to see this commuter making himself really comfortable on his train ride.
The train was about 90% full at that time, recounted Mr Teo, and this commuter stretched his legs out while snoozing, totally oblivious to the rest of the world.
"He is selfish," says Mr Teo, "as he could have simply rested his head against the panel and not take up two seats as a result of his actions."
Mr Teo also told STOMP that no one attempted to wake the sleeping man up. |

Likewise, on 12 November at about 1 pm, Johny, 27, a consultant, was somewhat amused to see this commuter with his legs up against the wall of the train while he was taking up two seats in his bid to get a comfortable snooze.
Johny who was headed towards Orchard, had boarded the train at Boon Lay and the man's actions had caught his attention.
Recounted Johny:
"He twisted and turned at every stop as his snooze was interrupted by the train movements."
Once again, no one else spoke up nor tried to wake the man up. |

Civil servant, Galil, 39 was on his way to Yio Chu Kang at about 1.40pm on Friday (17 Nov) when he noticed this selfish passenger on the train. The boy in his late teens placed his bag in a vacant seat and 揹id not budge even when the train started getting crowded. |

STOMPer Tan Wen Bin was going to the toilet at Farrer Park Station on 13 November when he noticed this sign on the doors. According to Wen Bin, he was quite puzzled and amused that the sign said 慒or train passengers only. |

That was what Vincent Lim, 43, was left wondering as he observed this lady on the train this afternoon (1 November). The lady was oblivious to the standing passengers on the train, and insisted on leaving her belongings on the seat next to her. Said Mr Lim: "Nobody dared to ask her to move her things for some reason."
"Singapore is considered an advanced country but this is a common sight, showing the ugly side of Singaporeans who lack civic-mindedness." |

STOMPer Gerard Christopher, 33, was on board the train on Friday, 8 a.m (24 November) when he saw this sight. An obviously pregnant woman was left to stand while three men who were not pretending to sleep or ignore her presence happily sat in their seats refusing to budge.
This inspired Gerard to write a poem. He wrote, 揥here oh where forth art thou oh gallant man. To stand tall and let no harm befall. Oh gallant man I wait for thee. To give that seat up for me! |

Product development manager Wagio, 26 was disturbed to witness the actions of these commuters who were aboard the train on the NEL on 22 November at about 9:30 am.
He boarded the train at Punggol station, and this old woman had got on the train at Hougang station. Standing behind her, he saw these three commuters opening their eyes several times during their journey.
Wagio comments in his MMS to us:
"What a way to treat the elderly!"
According to him, they obviously saw the old woman, but refused to make eye contact with her. |

Are NEL train doors unsafe, asks STOMPer
STOMP user Alvin Tan, 17, a student, had a rude shock when he, together with his friends, was on board a NEL train on 28 November at about 11:40pm.
One of them leant against a door of the train, and the door opened, whilst the train was , according to Alvin, 搕raveling at a high speed. |

There is no danger. The trains have special safety devices. The openings are very slight to enable people to retrieve things that get stuck in the doors (eg bags) but they will not open completely. The gaps are not big enough for anyone to fall through.
