Shilpa has moved on in life post 'Big Brother'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bollywood Trade News Network

"Shilpa Shetty is not interested to be 'used' as a PR tool to Jade Goody. Jade's purpose of visiting India becomes clear, as she has come with her agent Sally Andrews and PR Jazz Barton. It抯 obvious that she is here for media mileage. Shilpa is a genuine person and would not partake in any publicity stunt," said Dale Bhagwagar, spokesperson and publicist to Shilpa Shetty, reacting to 'Big Brother' participant Jade Goody's arrival in New Delhi, India.
However, Bhagwagar added, "India is full of very tolerant and cultured people and everyone is welcome. Shilpa doesn't hold grudges or animosity for anyone. That's the way she is. After 'Big Brother', she has moved on in life."
Shilpa is currently shooting round-the-clock for Anurag Basu's METRO, simultaneously completing her dubbing for METRO and Anil Sharma's APNE. With a choc-a-bloc schedule ahead, she will soon be flying back to UK to honour her Western commitments.
"Shilpa will now be doing a balancing act between Bollywood and the West. 'Big Brother' hasn't changed her. Instead, it抯 taught her, how important it is to be dignified in any situation. She remains the loving and affectionate person that she's always been," said Bhagwagar. |

Jade Goody donates to Indian charities
27/02/2007 14:33

By Jonathan Allen
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Jade Goody, the British reality show contestant who made headlines for racially abusing Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, said on Tuesday she would donate all her Big Brother earnings to charities for poor Indian children.
Goody, who arrived in India on Monday on what she said was a private four-day visit, danced with impoverished beggar children in the slums of New Delhi earlier on Tuesday in what is seen as an attempt to rehabilitate her tarnished image.
"I was an underprivileged child, but nothing like the children that I抳e met today," she told a hectic news conference at a deluxe hotel in the Indian capital, where organisers put up a cordon around her platform.
"They were inspirational," she added, saying that the deep poverty of children who spend their days begging at railway stations put the problems she was having with her stalled career as a tabloid celebrity in perspective.
"All the money I抳e earned from Big Brother ... everything that is connected to Big Brother will be donated to charity," she said, describing those earnings as "dirty money".
She did not say how much the earnings were, but said $50,000 had already been given to one charity.
Goody also apologised to Indians who had been hurt by her behaviour on the British television show Celebrity Big Brother.
Footage of her screaming abuse at Shetty was broadcast widely on Indian cable news channels last month, sparking a furore, and led the Indian government to ask Britain if race laws had been violated.
The Indian mission in London saw the row as an opportunity to promote tourism and placed tongue-in-cheek advertisements in British newspapers asking Goody to visit India and see its people for herself.
But Goody said she had paid for her trip and would not be meeting any officials.
"I抳e said sorry back at home a number of times and I haven抰 had the opportunity to say it to the Indian community, and I am so sorry for the hurt and pain my actions caused," she said, dressed in a white T-shirt and brown corduroy trousers.
She said the show had taught her that things she had not considered racist were, in fact, racist.
Goody, who originally found fame in Britain on an earlier series of Big Brother, said she had been told she was invited to Shilpa Shetty抯 Mumbai home, but she could not make it because of her charity commitments.
"But in the near future I抎 like to meet Shilpa if the offer抯 still open," she said.
Goody said she would spend all her time in India visiting charities, adding that she had not packed her bikini for the trip. |

JOLLY GOOD-Y TRIP? Goody, a beauty therapist, arrived in the Capital on Tuesday for a private visit.
New Delhi: They may have been arch rivals on Celebrity Big Brother, the British reality show that kicked up accusations of racism, but actor Shilpa Shetty is unperturbed by her tormentor Jade Goody's visit to India.
Shilpa, who won the contest and in the process also raked up sympathies from the British public even as Goody's racist remarks were condemned by politicians there, claims to have "moved on in life" after the episode.
"Shilpa has not been contacted by her (Goody). India is full of tolerant and cultured people and everyone is welcome," Shetty's spokesperson said in a statement.
"Shilpa doesn't hold grudges or animosity for anyone. That's the way she is. After Big Brother she has moved on in life," the statement read.
Goody, a beauty therapist, arrived in the Capital on Tuesday for a private visit.
Meanwhile, Shilpa is busy completing her commitments in Bollywood, shooting for Anurag Basu's Metro and Anil Sharma's Apne.
She will soon fly back to Britain, the spokesperson informed, "Shilpa will now be doing a balancing act between Bollywood and the West. Big Brother has not changed her, instead it has taught her how to be dignified in any situation." |

I will also humiliate Shah Rukh: Amar Singh
Onkar Singh in New Delhi
February 27, 2007 19:52 IST
Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh told mediapersons on Tuesday that he would publicly humiliate King Khan for his crude joke against him at a recent awards function.
On Sunday at the Filmfare awards night, Shah Rukh Khan, who was on stage, took a dig at Amar Singh saying that he saw 'darindigiri' (devil) in his eyes.
While Singh did not retaliate immediately he chose to react on Tuesday in Delhi.
Shah Rukh apologised after the function and said that whatever he had said was in good humour.
"I found more 'darindagi' in his language than in my eyes," said Singh. "I will also humiliate him publicly someday and then apologise to him and say that it was said in black humour," Singh said with a mischievous smile.
This is not the first time that duo have had a spat in public.
In 2004, during the Zee award function in Dubai, Singh and Khan got into a heated exchange.
Singh, who calls Amitabh Bachchan his brother, felt that it was not appropriate for the organisers to give Big B a sitting arrangement on the 12th row. The function was organised by a close friend of Shah Rukh.
Singh and Shah Rukh, however, patched up later at a Holi function organised by Bachchans at their home in Mumbai. |

STARRY WISHES: SRK said sports is about the belief every sportsman has and the effort they put in.
New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan had some very encouraging words for the Men in Blue as they embarked on their World Cup mission.
揑 don抰 know a lot about sports, but I do know that it is not about winning and losing. It is about the belief that every sportsman has and the effort they put in. I just want to say to Rahul (Dravid) and the boys, that they should just do their best and leave the rest," PTI quoted Khan saying at a function in Mumbai.
Organised by Pepsi, the function was held on the eve of the team's departure for the West Indies, with popular singers Shankar Mahadevan and Adnan Sami adding spice to the event with foot-tapping numbers.
And that was not all. Even actress Priyanka Chopra put in an appearance to wish the team all the best.
Dravid thanked Khan and all the fans for their wishes and said they would definitely help the team in doing their best at the World Cup. |

Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kissen as a Christian patriot
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 01, 2007]

Ravi Kissen is all set to be seen as a Christian patriot in an upcoming film.
In 1971, Ravi Kissen plays Captain Jacob who is an explosive and topography expert. A romantic at heart who met his to-be-wife in a cinema hall and had fallen in love with her there and then, he is shown to be hailing from Cochin.
In the war that follows in the year 1971, he plays one of the 6 Indian POWs in Pakistani camp who decide to make an escape to reach the Indian border. For Captain Jacob, the dream was to get back to his wife of 2 years who was waiting for him to come back alive one day.
The odds were certainly against the 6 of them but they all had a mission, purpose and an aim to achieve the impossible. And what followed from here on was a saga of bravery, courage, patriotism and sacrifice that has never been told before on celluloid.

Deepa Mehta's WATER arrives on March 09
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 01, 2007]

Deepa Mehta's much cherished dream finally comes true as her film WATER gets set to release on March 09 in India, the country from where the story originates.
The film was stopped from being shot in India years back when the original cast read Shabana Azmi, Akshay Kumar and Nandita Das. Third in the trilogy after FIRE and EARTH, WATER was later made with Seema Biswas, John Abraham and Lisa Ray respectively.
Also, the country for the shoot was changed and the film was secretly shot in Sri Lanka under the fake title of FULL MOON to avoid any further controversy that could have hampered the completion of the movie.
The film is set in year 1938, pre-independence India, when the country was under the colonial rule of British. This was the time when child marriage in certain sections of society was a bitter reality as they were married to much older men. And what happened when these men died? Their wives were forced to spend the rest of their lives in 'ashrams' [institutions] meant for widows.
Deepa Mehta takes the story from this point onwards and tells the tale of the woman played by Lisa Ray who falls in love with a Gandhian played by John Abraham. |

Box office analysis
Exclusive By Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 01, 2007]

First weekend performance of latest release
HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD. was the sole release of the film and that benefited it to an extent that the audience didn't have to worry about too many films to choose from in the Friday gone by. EKLAVYA, the film which released a week earlier, hardly found much patronage into its second week and hence made HTPL to have a safe opening weekend.
The film's opening was centered on the 50% mark and that can be considered as decent, if not very good, considering the fact that the film came with an unconventional theme and didn't boast of any star power per se. Also, the film was released at a substantial number of prints and hence the audience was divided over the number of shows that were being played across numerous multiplexes. The film picked up steam over the weekend and collections improved on Saturday and Sunday.
Director Kagti tried doing something genuinely different and succeeded to a good extent, though much better results would be expected from in her next film. Amongst actors, Kay Kay Menon and Raima Sen have been unanimously hailed as the ones who have stolen the show though there is not a single actor who hasn't performed with his heart and soul in the project.

HTPL never pretended to be a blockbuster and the box office performance also indicates the same. A small film by a debutant director, it opened to more or less good reviews while the audience reaction also ranges from average to nice to good, hence promising to make HTPL a small success at the least.
Last week's movies
Last week, it was mentioned here that ".....after a good start, EKLAVYA seems to be on a shaky ground w.r.t. a long run at the box office. A fall is very much on the cards and at the moment, the film appears to be en route to an overall run ranging from average to above average." With the first week's collections being out, this very much seems to be the case as the film gathered only 14 crores at the box office.
When one looks at the budget of the film, 14 crores seems to be a good total but the way film was hyped beyond expectations and also over publicized at all quarters, a sustained box office performance was expected from it. On the contrary the film started showing cracks from the deadly Monday and by the time the second weekend came, the writing was clear on the wall that the film would be having a limited run.
The film did reasonably well at Mumbai with 3 crores coming in while Delhi was decent too at 1.3 crores. Pune was good at 80 lakhs while Ahmedabad was also not far behind at 70 lakhs. But as things stand now, the film is en route to 60-70% fall in the second week hence making even 25 crores a difficult target to achieve for EKLAVYA.
From the past

BLACK FRIDAY held on to some extent in the second week as it fell by 60% but still got home another 1 crore+ to its total. When one looks at the break up of collections across the cities, the film has held on best in Mumbai while in places like Bangalore and Delhi, it has taken a big fall. Standing at 4 crores, the film has entered the profit zone and should soon find patronage in the DVD circuits. And yes, these DVDs should be special since they are original uncut versions unlike the pirated software available for 2 years that has more than 45 minutes of the film's footage edited.
Special mention for Kay Kay who seems to be an exciting zone of his career as on one set of screens his BLACK FRIDAY is running while on others, he is jumping around to Vishal Shekhar's dance song of the year so far - 'Sajna Vaari Vaari'.
UNDERTRIAL showed a complete crash in the second week as after collecting 40 lakhs in week 1, it could only add 4 lakhs more hence resulting in a 90% drop. A box office disaster, it must have left its producer disheartened as he had ventured into telling a daringly new story.
After managing to hang on in its second week, TRAFFIC SIGNAL showed a mighty fall in its 3rd week as it fell by more than 75%. This kind of crash was quite unexpected for the film but as of now, it certainly seems to be ending its theatrical run. Adding on another 55 lakhs and now standing at close to 8.5 crore, it is average box office success for Madhur Bhandarkar. Will the lure of mega bucks catch up with him too soon and he would aim at making a big budget mega star cast film? He actually may, considering the fact that he now has his Mumbai trilogy behind him.

Collections of SALAAM E ISHQ were a little better than TRAFFIC SIGNAL as it got in 65 lakhs for its investors. At 24 crores, the film should now be aiming at a DVD release. And yes, one would like to look at additional 30 minutes footage of the film that director Nikhil Advani is said to have chopped before the release to make it a 3 hours 30 minutes film! PARZANIA is now more or less out of theaters with 70 lakhs in its kitty.
Meanwhile GURUbhai continues to rock with further 1.5 crores in its 6th week. Due to competition from his dad [EKLAVYA], Abhishek did see a fall of 45% after a negligible fall of 15% in the week prior to it. At 40 crores, the film is now a superhit and gets both Mani Ratnam and Abhishek Bachchan a firm footing in the world of Hindi cinema. On the other hand VIVAH continues to be a success story it is with a mere 15% fall resulting in 50 lakhs more coming in. Rajshris are minting money and with 30 crores in already, the film was still running at 225 screens which is the second highest number of screens after EKLAVYA (450+). Phenomenal.
In the future
Two films belonging to different sense and sensibilities are releasing together this Friday. While NISHABD by RGV has been in news since one year, NEHLLE PE DEHLLA comes relatively unannounced. None of the two films promise a big opening which seems strange, at least in paper, since NISHABD brings back RGV and Big B after SARKAR while NPD stars Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan who are at the peak of their careers.
Reason? NISHABD comes with an unconventional theme and hence would need very strong word of mouth to be picked up by the audience. At the moment, only hardcore film lovers may venture into the theaters to watch this love story unfold and hence even a 50% opening would be considered quite good.
On the other hand NEHLLE PE DEHLLA could just have been one hilarious film to watch if promoted better and placed well in the market. As of now, there is not much awareness about the film outside Mumbai and hence it will be star power blazing from the bill boards that could fetch it a decent opening. But houseful boards for an entire weekend are ruled out for this debut vehicle of director Ajay Chandok. |

Will Amrita Arora be the surprise package of RED?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Friday, March 02, 2007]

Will RED be the film that would bring back Amrita Arora in the limelight?
That's the question which is most prominent in the industry circles right now considering the fact that this Vikram Bhatt film is creating decent buzz all over. Though Celina Jaitley is certainly the bigger draw in the film while Vikram Bhatt's regular Aftab is said to have come up with yet another good performance for his favorite director, it is Amrita Arora who may well throw a surprise in RED.
As Ria, Anahita's [Celina] best friend, she was her anchor; a girl who wanted Anahita to start living her life with normalcy again. A sexy and flirtatious girl who was also quite mysterious, not many knew who she was, where did she come from and what were her intentions. But there was something about her that made you get attracted towards her, though with apprehensions. |
