THE LAST DAYS OF AUTUMN
There's a change coming next week with much colder air on the way and perhaps snow, even at lower level. The last autumn colours are now fast disappearing. It's a time to hold your breath and prepare for winter. In past times these were the last days to prepare your food stores, do your smoking and salting and ensure your wood stock is plentiful and dry. Many of us still go through some of these routines, many here in the rural west coast are somewhat dependent on wood still for winter warmth (including myself), but I am lucky to have the modern convenience of a freezer to fill with the freshly prepared meat from our local red deer (hjort). The last throws of autumn here in Hyllestad are, perhaps, no more beautiful than the views from Sæsol over the fjord and to our, always present, mountain, Lihesten. |
