Pengajaran dan Panduan untuk Semua
CAR SEAT SAFETY
Startling findings suggest that around 70% of car seats are fitted incorrectly. When you consider that every year more than 100,000 children are involved in crashes, it's clear just how crucial a safely secured car seat is.
Holly Smith is a healthy, happy 18-month-year-old, but had it not been for her child seat, it could easily have been a different story.
Mum Victoria was driving to work one morning. Holly was strapped up in her car seat in the back.
Victoria was momentarily distracted by a noise and turned to the backseat to check on Holly.
When Victoria turned back, she realised she had veered onto the opposite side of the road into the oncoming traffic.
"I hit the car head-on. The car pushed me about 150 yards down the road and I ended up in a hedge," says Victoria.
Her injuries were life threatening and Victoria was air lifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
"I had broken my leg, completely shattered my pelvis, I'd ripped my spleen and my liver," she explains.
"I was told if the air ambulance hadn't arrived, I wouldn't be here today."
Safe in her seat
There was better news for her daughter. Holly came away from the accident completely unscathed.
"I know it's because of her car seat. It was fitted properly, the seat belts worked fully.
"Holly was safe in that car seat."
Holly is living proof that a correctly fitted car seat saves lives.
But, according to car seat expert, Damon Marriot, many parents are unknowingly driving their children around in badly fitted car seats.
"I generally find that about 70% of the ones we check are not fitted correctly.
"It's normally a minor thing where they don't pull the seats tight enough, but you do still get some where they don't use the seats at all."
Second hand safety
Despite tempting cut-price offers, experts advise against buying second hand car seats.
To find out why, Inside Out puts a second hand seat to the test.

yg ada base so far yg selalu tgk jual, graco n peg perego/mamas n papas primo viaggio
tapi, most of my frens yg pakai primo viaggio kata the shape of the seat is bad for their baby..the baby's position's kinda hunch a bit bila lam seat, so, x comfy sgt..just thought i'd let you know..
kalau nak yg lagi senang install, isofix base la..tapi, yg ni for sure kena upgrade keta, sbb newer car models je yg ada benda ni, kat sini, keta from 2005 n above ja..car seat dia pun lagi mahal :gila: but the safest so far.. |

Car seat rating report
A car seat rating report : your child safety merits the best !
Don't settle with less than the highest car seat rating. The safety of your children is so important !
We have reviewed, for you, the reports of The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (NHSTA) on infant car seat models. We have identified those meeting the highest standards. Let's take a look at these standards and what are some of the best car seat models for each category.
Rear-facing infant seat
Important car seat rating standards to look for in this category are :
Five-point harness : has shoulder straps, lap straps to hold the lower body and a crotch strap which may be adjusted to fit the child exactly.
Shoulder strap slots : Shoulder straps fit best when they are close to the child, so the more slots the better. Look for a minimum of 3 slots.
Two Crotch Strap slots : With two strap locations the harness can always be kept close to the child's body as he is growing
Two-piece Chest clip : The clip keeps the shoulder harness straps positioned properly. The 2-piece clip is more durable and more difficult to open by the infant.
Detachable base : This a very practical feature. The infant can be carried in and out of the vehicle without removing or re-installing the base every time. Also, if the base is adjustable it will help achieve the correct angle for young babies.
Carry handle : The handle is a must to be able to carry a small baby in the seat
Some of the models meeting the above car seat rating standards are :
* Avanta by Century/Graco (birth to 22 lbs)
* Celestia by Century/Graco (birth to 22 lbs)
* SmartFit Plus 22/Supreme (birth to 22 lbs)
Forward-facing child seat
Models with the highest car seat rating in this category should have the following features :
Five-point harness : See details above
Shoulder strap slots : See details above
Two Crotch Strap slots : See details above
Two-piece Chest clip : See details above
Front-access harness adjuster : This feature allows the shoulder harness straps to be adjusted without removing the seat from the car or loosening the vehicle belt
Tilt-lock tether strap adjuster : With this adjuster the tether can be tightened or loosened after installation in the vehicle without unhooking or re-threading the strap
Some of the models meeting the above car seat rating features are :
* Super Elite by Britax (20-80 lbs)
* Traveller Plus by Britax (20-105 lbs)
* Gorilla by Snug Seat (20-105 lbs)
Manufacturers also make convertible or combination car seat models. Convertible models with the best car seat rating are the Accel, the Bravo and the SmartMove, all manufactured by Century/Graco. In the combination category the highest car seat rating is obtained by the NextStep DX or MX made by Century/Graco or the Express from Evenflo.
If you are looking for a car seat for your child, be demanding, set your standards high and don't settle for low quality. It will be one of the best investment of your life. |

CAR SEAT SALE LAGI
Butik Moms Care di Ampang Point ada car seat sale :
GRACO booster seats - antara RM100-200
VIVA car seats - antara rm200-400 - dari segi kualiti brand VIVA ni jauh lebih baik dari Sweet Cherry. Worth buying.
SAFE N SOUND (leading brand in Australia) - antara 800-1000
Butik Anakku pun tengah sale sampai hujung bulan. Car seat ELEGO by Anakku harga antara RM200-300. ELEGO ni pun nampak kemas dan berkualiti tapi rasanya tak sesuai digunakan sehingga umur 3/4 tahun sebab agak sempit.

Honeybee,
Anak akak yang umur 5 tahun sekarang guna booster seat especially untuk long journey. Dia start guna booster seat bila umur 3 tahun lebih. Lebih safe and secure, positioning lebih elok, boleh sandar di "tebing" kalau mengantuk dan tempat duduk raised up, boleh nampak luar taklah dia boring.
Tapi kalau umur 2 tahun 11/12 kg akak rasa macam kurang sesuai sebab booster seat agak lebar, tak macam car seat yang berbentuk cam capsule. Anak akak yang umur 2.5 tahun berat 16 kg pun akak tengok lebih safe dalam car seat dan belum sesuai untuk booster seat.
Ini tips dari internet. Akak rasa honeybee pun banyak surf for infos kan?

What Is a Booster Seat?
Belt-positioning booster seats are designed to raise children up on the car seat so that the lap/shoulder belts fit correctly. This is the preferred type of booster seat and requires a lap/shoulder belt in the back seat of the vehicle. Shield booster seats have a plastic shield in front of the child. These seats offer less protection, however, and the report recommends they only be used with the shields removed so that they function as belt-positioning booster seats.
Why Use a Booster Seat?
In the United States, 1,791 children younger than 15 years were killed and 282,000 were injured as passengers in motor vehicle crashes in 1997. Among 5 to 9-year-old passengers, 46% of those involved in fatal crashes were unrestrained.1
Who Should Use a Booster Seat?
Children should start using a booster seat when they grow out of their convertible child safety seats -- when their ears are level with the top of the back of the safety seat and their shoulders are above the top strap slots, or when they reach the upper weight limit for the seat. Children should use a booster seat until the lap/shoulder belts in the car fit properly -- when they are at least 58 inches tall, have a sitting height of 29 inches and weigh 80 pounds (with clothing on).2 To ride comfortably and safely, children must be able to bend their knees over the edge of the seat while sitting with their backs firmly against the seat back. In most cases, this means that children 10 years old and younger should be using a booster seat after they have outgrown the child safety seat.

my husband and I mmg pentingkan safety. masa newborn, i pun them in the baby carrier yg boleh letak dlm kete tu until dia 9 mths, tak nak duduk dlm tu dah.. so we bought a car seat. I was living in bintulu that time so mana ada car seat yg brand like Graco ke, maxi cosi ke evenflo..etc.. yg cokia murah punya ada laa..! I bought an evenflo convertible car seat from Ebay (saved $$$$$$$)) tapi while waiting for the seat to arrive 2.5 mths later, i pinjam my neighbour's car seat.
Once the car seat arrived, i had no problem putting my daughter in it sbb dah biasa. Then, adik pulak pakai. sampai la umur dia 4 yrs masih muat lagi sbb belum reach the maximum weight. Biasala, car seat omputih ni besar. my advice nak beli car seat, jgn beli local brand. buy the imported ones like Britax, Maxi Cosi, Graco, Evenflo, etc.. priced minimum rm500. or beli kat Ebay. can save a few hundreds. |

wah...lamanye brg nak sampai from eBay..... tak pernah pulak kena wait that long. maybe bulky items kot. you should have opted for "pick-up" if bulky items mcm tu. save cost on delivery.
