PETALING JAYA: A Malayan tiger was killed crossing the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2) at about midnight.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) confirmed that a car bound for Kuala Terengganu hit the tiger near the 321km highway mark.
"It happened last night, roughly around midnight, at the section near Paka to Kerteh," MHA director-general Datuk Ismail Md Salleh told The Star on Saturday.
He said the place where the tiger died cut through a forest reserve there.
Malaysia is home to the Malayan Tiger, a critically endangered species with only about 250 to 340 left in the wild.
He added that fences had been put up along the highway to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
Ismail said the MHA, which was currently in charge of the highway, was going to check and see if there were any damaged fences there.
Posts on social media this morning showed a dead tiger lying by the side of a road.
Though the person who hit the tiger was not identified, a picture on social media suggests that they might have been driving an MPV at the time.
Ismail added that the area was also prone to cattle crossing the road, and he advised motorists not to drive very fast there.
He added that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) remove the tiger's body at about 3am.

CERITA SEBENAR DALAM KES LANGGAR HARIMAU
Dalam perjalanan saya dari Kuala Lumpur menuju Exit Ajil, keadaan jalan agak gelap gelita. Tiada kenderaan dalam radius 500 meter dari kendaraan saya dan bila saya lalu di KM320, saya sudah melalui di jalan yang gelap gélita, tiada kenderaan lain selain kereta saya.
Sepanjang perjalanan saya itu, hujan turun dgn lebatnya dan angin lintang juga yang agak kuat. Oleh sebab itu, sy memandu kereta agak perlahan, lebih kurang 100 ke 120kmsj. Setelah melepasi KM320, hujan mula berhenti dan kawasan menjadi amat gelap.
Setelah melintasi KM321.1, lebih kurang 5 meter dari saya, saya terperanjat kerana saya ternampak harimau berlari melintasi kereta saya dari arah kiri menghala ke kanan. tapi nasib tidak meyebelahi harimau tersebut kerana jarak yang terlalu dekat, lebih kurang 5meter dari kenderaan saya, saya tidak sempat membuat apa2 dan trelus terlanggar harimau tersebut dan harimau itu mati di tempat kejadian. Dalam keadaan yang terperanjat, saya berhentikan kenderaan di jalur kanan untuk beberapa seketika, dan terus memberi signal dan membawa kereta saya lebih kuräng 100 meter dari tempat kejadian kerana khuatir berkemungkinan ada harimau lain berdekatan.
Harimau itu agak besar, dalan anggaran 170kg ke 180Kg.
Info terkini yg saya dapat dsri sumber Perhilitan mengatakan hsrimau yg sy langgar itu sedang hamil adalahTIDAK BENAR..

Lebih sedih bila mentaliti cetek sebegini adalah majority orang melayu...
Akak penah terlibat jgk dgn kerja2 mcm ni.. mostly chinese n indians.. and most high positions, experts, scientists are them too.. mgkn sbb dorang ramai budak sains dan nak masuk kritiikal course peluang terhad sebab quota.. jadi kena campak course2 sains lain...
And yet they excel and did a good job with whateveer given to them..
Ada jgk family terdekat akak pun pandang rendah usaha2 sebegini... kata dorang akak tak ada wawasan... takpe la.. tunggu anak cucu dorang kenal ayam kfc je.. ayam hidup tak kenal.. dah berlaku pun sekarang...

In 2005, Johan Eliasch created the Rainforest Trust and purchased for preservation purposes a 400,000-acre (1,600 km 2 ) rainforest area in the heart of the Amazon rainforest near the Madeira River. [5]
In 2006, he co-founded Cool Earth, [6] a charity he co-chairs, which sponsors local NGO's to conserve endangered rainforest and has over 120,000 registered members.
In 2007 he was commissioned by HM Government to undertake an independent review on the role of international finance mechanisms to preserve the global forests in tacking climate change, 'The Eliasch Review' , [7]
which was launched by the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street in October 2008. The Eliasch Review has served as a guideline for REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) as part of the international climate change convention.
