Saif Ali Khan opted out of Karan Johar抯 next because his character has gay overtones; John has no problems, and has stepped into the role
NOT A'GAY'N: Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan抯 loss is John Abraham抯 gain. After Saif pleaded unavailability to star in Karan Johar抯 next untitled flick (to be directed by his assistant Tarun Mansukhani), John has been roped in to fill his shoes. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.
Playing straight
The buzz doing the round is that Saif opted out because he has no dates this year. Another rumour is that Saif felt his role was not substantial compared to Abhishek and Ash, but the fact is that Mansukhani抯 directorial debut is a romantic comedy with gay overtones, hence Saif has rejected it.
Interestingly, Johar抯 2003 production Kal Ho Na Ho had Saif and Shah Rukh Khan抯 characters playing to the gallery pretending to be in a gay relationship, but this time Saif wants to play safe.
GAME FOR IT: John Abraham
A source from Yash Raj Films (Aditya Chopra and Karan抯 friendship needs no introduction), confirms, 揝aif opted out of Karan抯 film only because his role required him to play a man pretending to be gay.
His role is similar to that of John Ritter in the American sitcom Three抯 Company, where his character has to pretend to be gay so that his prudish landlord permits him to live with female flatmates. |
