Phelps back to winning ways after injury

ATLANTA: US swim star Michael Phelps won his first victories since breaking his right wrist in October, winning the 200-yard freestyle and helping a relay triumph on Friday at the Short Course Nationals.

Phelps, whose quest for a record eight gold medals figures to be the major story of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, suffered the injury when he slipped getting into a car last month at the University of Michigan, which he attends.

Phelps won the 200-yard race in 1:32.13, just 0.05 off his American record at the non-metric distance, with Peter Vanderkaay second in 1:32.26 and Chris DeJong third in 1:33.22.

Phelps also helped Club Wolverine set an American record of 6:12.43 in the 4x200-yard freestyle relay, breaking the old mark of 6:17.92 set last March by Stanford University.

Phelps: Won two titles in a US short course meet after recovering from a broken wrist.

Phelps, who won seven world titles and set four world records at the World Championships earlier this year, will try to break Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at a single Olympics in Beijing.

Swimmer Daniel hit by high fever

A BOUT of high fever could spoil swimmer Daniel Bego抯 bid to become the outstanding male swimmer of the Korat SEA Games.

Daniel, a good bet to win five individual gold medals, complained of fever after arriving in Korat with the team on Monday evening. He trained at the competition venue yesterday morning but his condition took a turn for the worse, forcing him to skip the afternoon session.

It is certainly not the kind of news swimming coach Gavin Urquhart wanted to hear of his charge ahead of the competitions, which begin on Friday.

The 18-year-old Daniel, who completed his SPM exams last week, is the defending champion in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle. And based on the times he set this year, he has good shots at winning the 100m and 400m freestyle as well as the 200m butterfly.

Urquhart, who has been with Daniel since the Melbourne Commonwealth Games last year, said: 揑 thought he was okay and he trained in the morning. It was not an issue then but his temperature went up later and he was losing fluids. He is resting in the Games Village.

pompuanlaa...so nk cr instructor pompuan klu blh. saya blhlaa swimming sket2.. klu leh nk laa jadik terer..hehee..
dulu slalu juge follow my auntie ajo swimming.. dia mmg instructor tp dulu malas laa plk belajo..duk main air je..dh tua baru menyesal..

...la nie my auntie msh mengajar tp jauh laa plk nk join dia..kalau leh belajar sndiri area putrajaya nie...lg best...

nk tya...kalau baby 1 tahun 7 bulan belajar swimming ok ke...

u boleh jadi cikgu ke? bayaran camne? i tengah cari tempat/cikgu utk belajar brenang kalau boleh area putrajaya/cyberjaya/banting. Harap-harap dapat cikgu yg penyabar la sebab i ni fobia sikit pasal berenang ni sebab ada pengalaman hampir lemas masa banjir.

jgn risau pasal umo or jantina... jojo ada utk kedua2 nya skali..

hahaha... takut air jgn risau.. itu semua boleh diatasi dalam masa 6 hari swimming lessons...

kalu berminat pm jojo...

lupa nk bgtau potpouri... utk bayi umo 1++ boleh je swim.. tp digalakkan bersama ibu ler..

luyur n potpouri,

jojo nyer kelas utk children ada, lelaki dewasa pun ada n wanita pn ada..

instructor pompuan n lelaki pun ada.. pilih je nk mana satu...

anak2 korang kalu yg berminat leh register...

sesapa lg yg berminat pm jojo ya...

sapa yg duk area bangi, kajang, serdang, putrajaya, n sewaktu dengan nyer...

kalu sesapa ada pool sendiri or apartment pun boleh.. kitorg akan g ke umah korg ler..

huhu.. papehal tanya je apa yg tak jelas ek...
