Honda confident of maintaining form
Ross Brawn believes his Honda team can be just as competitive in next weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix as it was in Melbourne.
After a miserable 2007 and a worryingly underwhelming winter,Honda's new RA108 nearly made it into Q3 in Australia and ran in thetop five in Rubens Barrichello's hands.
Only a series of pit stop disasters - culminating indisqualification for missing the pit exit red light - prevented theBrazilian from scoring his first points since 2006.
Team boss Brawn reckons Honda will maintain its promise at Sepang.
"I think we can have a similarly strong weekend to the one we experienced in Melbourne," he said.
"We have shown that we have a car with which to target the points and two drivers who are very determined to achieve that."
Honda ended the final major pre-season test firmly last on thetimesheets, but then introduced upgrades at an additional private runin Spain while the rest of the teams were packing for Melbourne.
Brawn denied that this had been a panic measure and said the developments had always been in the pipeline.
"It was a very good step - and it was a planned step," he told the official Formula 1 website.
"We knew that in planning this car from the very beginning that itwas going to run initially with a low spec and that we would have thisnew spec introduced before the first race.
"That was all part of the plan and the encouraging thing was thatwhat was predicted from our aerodynamic group then worked on the track.
"If not, we would have had to face a really big challenge."

Rosberg: there's a lot more to come
Nico Rosberg says his third place in the Australian Grand Prix is just the tip of the iceberg for Williams in 2008.
The team has shown resurgent form in testing, and Rosberg recoveredfrom a difficult Friday to clinch the first podium of his Formula 1career with a charging drive in the race.
The young German reckons Williams has made a bigger step than manyof its rivals in the 'best of the rest' pack - and is only going to getfaster.
"They have been working very hard and they have done a better jobthan teams like Renault and Red Bull over the winter," Rosberg said.
"That is a big step forward for the whole team.
"Also I have to say that we have a lot of development coming.
"There are a lot of things which we have not been able to put on the car yet, so I think we are up for a good year.
"Let's not get too excited obviously as we need to wait a few racesto see where we are exactly but still I think we are in quite a goodposition."
Williams' testing times had created great excitement about theteam's 2008 prospects, but Rosberg had been cautious in his pre-seasonpredictions."In general I prefer to go a little bit away from optimism before a season starts," he admitted.
"I just try and base myself a bit more on realistic things becauseit just wasn't very clear where we were relative to Renault, Red Bull.
"Toyota came up strong on the last day of the tests, so you couldeasily find yourself twelfth, behind all these teams, if they were acouple of tenths ahead of you when you came to Melbourne."
He was also particularly pleased that Williams had shown so much pace despite severely lacking practice mileage.
Gearbox failures kept both cars in the garage on Friday morning, and differential issues then ruined Rosberg's afternoon.
"We had a disastrous day on Friday, really it was probably the worststart we could imagine, so we started from zero on Saturday morning,"he said.
"We more or less put the car that we came on the plane with intoqualifying and so as a basis, it just shows that the car is good whichis really nice."

Two fresh Ferrari engines on their way to Malaysia

Aftersuffering not one, but two very rare engine failures in last Sunday抯season opening Australian grand Prix, the Scuderia Ferrari team arepreparing to fly out two fresh engines for this weekend抯 second roundof the season at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.

Althoughthere was no tell tale signs of smoke or fire spewing from the back ofeither Kimi Raikkonen or Felipe Massa抯 F2008抯, the team confirmedthat it was definitely engine failure that halted the progress of bothcars and team boss Stefano Domenicali has admitted that this is aconcern匸/size]

"Obviously it doesn't give us peace of mind," he told Autosport. "We must understand everything but this is obviously the most worrying thing. We must react."

Aspokesman for the Maranello based squad has since confirmed that theyhave an idea on where the problem actually lies, but until they havehad the chance to analyse both units in fine detail, they can抰 be 100%sure.

揟he engines concerned have been flown back to Italy where they will be examined in detail by our engineers,擺/i] he told the Guardian. 揙nly when we have completed that process will we be able to diagnose the problem with any certainty.抂/i]

Enginefailure was not the only issue of the rather lacklustre weekend for theItalian team with issues for Kimi Raikkonen in qualifying and bothdrivers making simple errors during the race itself.

Hopefullythings will go a lot better for both drivers at this weekend抯Malaysian Grand Prix and that the expected high temperatures, similarto those experienced in Melbourne, don抰 cause a similar overall result.

Ecclestone wants wins to decide title
Bernie Ecclestone says he wants to see the Formula 1 scoring formatabolished and the championship title given to whoever wins the mostraces.
The Formula 1 supremo told the Daily Mail newspaper thatthe current points system did not offer sufficient incentives to pushfor victory, as there is only a two-point gap between winning andsecond place.
He believes abandoning drivers' points in favour of a winner takes all approach would make the races much more entertaining.
"I got a bit waylaid last season, what with all the business withMcLaren and Ferrari, but it is my intention to push this idea throughin the coming weeks," said Ecclestone.
"The key word in motor racing is 'racing', and right now there arenot enough overtaking manoeuvres in the sport because drivers are happynot to take risks and claim second place because it is only two pointsless than winning the race.
"What I want to see is the winner of the most number of races asworld champion, and second places only to be used if the top two finishthe season with the same number of wins.
"The constructors would keep the existing system."
Although Ecclestone controls the commercial side of F1, the FIA is responsible for the regulations.
Bernie's proposed system would not have made a difference to any ofthe recent championship fights, although more would have been decidedby final round showdowns.
The driver with the most wins has taken the title every year since1989, when Ayrton Senna won six grands prix but lost the crown tofour-time race winner Alain Prost.
Nigel Mansell would also have become a three-time champion underEcclestone's proposal, adding the 1986 and 1987 championships to his1992 title.
