Everynew year, I adopt a couple of old maxims as my beacons to guide myfuture. This self-prescribed therapy has ensured that with each passingyear, I grow wiser and not older. This year, I invite you to tap intothe financial wisdom of our elders along with me, and becomefinancially wiser.



* Hard work: All hard work bring a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.



* Laziness: A sleeping lobster is carried away by the water current.



* Earnings: Never depend on a single source of income. [At least make your Investments get you second earning]



* Spending: If you buy things you don't need, you'll soon sell things you need.



* Savings: Don't save what is left after spending; spend what is left after saving.



* Borrowings: The borrower becomes the lender's slave.



* Accounting: It's no use carrying an umbrella, if your shoes are leaking.



* Auditing: Beware of little expenses; A small leak can sink a large ship.



* Risk-taking: Never test the depth of the river with both feet. [Have an alternate plan ready]



* Investment: Don't put all your eggs in one basket.



I'mcertain that those who have already been practicing these principlesremain financially healthy. I'm equally confident that those whoresolve to start practicing these principles will quickly regain theirfinancial health.



Let us become wiser and lead a happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful life.

on Bursa Malaysia halts due to technical problems

KUALA LUMPUR: Trading on Bursa Malaysia was halted at 12.19pm Monday due to a problem encountered with the stock exchange抯 price dissemination system.

Bursa Malaysia Bhd public relations head Geeta Balakrishnan said in a press statement that trading on equities and derivatives was halted until further notice. Meanwhile, Sydney-based Deutsche Bank AG chief economist Darren Gibbs said in a report that markets should trade quietly on Monday due to a holiday in the US.

At 12.30pm, Tokyo抯 Nikkei 225 was 0.22% lower at 7,762.39, Hong Kong抯 Hang Seng Index fell 1.71% to 13,322.93, Shanghai抯 A share index was up 1.32% to 2,351.42, Seoul抯 Kospi Index was down 0.89% to 1,181.78 while Singapore抯 Straits Times Index fell 0.48% to 1,697.52.
