Massa dominates first free practice
FelipeMassa was clearly the fastest man on Friday morning at the SepangInternational Circuit. The Brazilian's fastest lap time, a 1m35,392,was over a second faster than his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, though theFinn had to face another engine problem. Heikki Kovalainen ended third,followed by Nico Rosberg in fourth.
The second GrandPrix weekend of the season got under way on Friday morning in Malaysia.Temperatures weren't as hot as Malaysia can get now and then. With anair temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius it wasn't that hot as itcould get a Sepang, though humidity was already around 75% in themorning. The 90-minutes session began when Sebastien Bourdais was thefirst driver after 15 minutes to hit the track with a timed lap.
Therewere a number of yellow flag situations. David Coulthard's Red Bul wascompletely wrecked when the Scotsman went over the kerbs and flew intothe air. When he touched the ground his car got heavily damaged andended his session early. Team-mate Mark Webber didn't have much of abetter session. The Australian had to stop his car with smoke comingout of his Renault engine.
The Red Bull drivers weren't theonly ones though with problems. Force India F1 driver Adrian Sutil hadto pull over with a smoking Ferrari engine. The German was able tocomplete just five laps this morning. Not much later into the sessionKimi Raikkonen's Ferrari gave up on him. His car had to be removed sored flags were waved for nine minutes for marshals to get his car insafe place.
Sebastian Vettel enjoyed a scary moment around theend of the session. As Vettel was approaching the final corner hisbrakes exploded. |
