Ryan Seacrest Drops Hint Adam Lambert Has a Substantial Lead on American Idol
Season 8 of American Idol is down to the final eight and if you read between the lines, it seems Adam Lambert has a substantial lead. In week four of the finals Anoop Desai, Allison Iraheta and Megan Joy found themselves in the American Idol bottom three. It was the second trip to the bottom three for both Allison and Megan which has to be considered a very bad omen. Only Allison needs to worry as Megan was sent home and none too soon. Her departure was not a surprise, and it was rather evident she had expected it. The judges, especially Simon, were hard on her and said they would not consider using their save on her regardless of how good her last performance might be. With Megan gone, there are now only eight remaining to fight for the title.
Most people, and I stress most, believe Adam Lambert is the front runner. I, too, believe Adam is currently in the lead but unlike many I don't believe Adam has the competition wrapped up just yet. What no one knows for certain is just how big of a lead Adam really has, assuming of course he does indeed have a lead. America will not be told who the leading vote getter is, and we will certainly never know how large of a lead any one contestant has, it simply does not benefit the show to release that information. However, a clue may have been given during the week three results show which might shed a little light on the subject.
While speaking with the judges, Ryan Seacrest began discussing how much praise the judges had given Adam Lambert. They called him a star and told him he was in the star zone. Then Seacrest asked a question of the judges. Is there anything the other contestants need to do to close the gap between themselves and Adam? This would seem to be the first confirmation that Adam Lambert is actually leading in votes. Many have thought this, talking about it, and speculated, but no hard data was available to confirm these suspicions, until now. Not only did this comment reveal Adam as the leader, but the way in which the question was asked leads me to believe the gap between first and second is considerable. After all, if it were a close competition, why ask the question at all?
There are many other questions remaining, such as who is in second place? Can they indeed close the gap? and will Adam's support hold up over the next six weeks? I personally believe we are in for some surprises in the next few weeks with who is in the bottom three and who goes home. It will also be interesting to see who, if anyone, the judges decide to use their save on to bring back for at least one more week. The save, if it is to be used, will have to come in the next three weeks. After the final five are revealed, the save cannot be used. There are a great many unkowns, but it is a very safe bet to say Adam Lambert won't be needing the save.
