'It was like thunder' - Singaporean victim in Bukit Bintang bomb attack recounts ordeal
The Singaporean who was among the 13 people injured by a rare grenade blast early Thursday morning is well, but said he is in the dark about what triggered the attack in downtown Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Wong Kim Teng appeared calm and was alone when The Straits Times met him at the Ampang Hospital on Thursday evening.
The 67-year-old said he had five stitches after suffering injuries to his legs. He declined to say why he was at the Bukit Bintang shopping district at 4.30am, when the grenade went off, beyond saying he was "a visitor".
"I was just getting to my car when suddenly there was an explosion," Mr Wong said, recounting his ordeal from his hospital bed.
He added: "It was like thunder. And then suddenly I saw blood all over me. I'm sorry, I have no other news or information on what happened." Mr Wong had earlier been treated at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital before being transferred to Ampang.
Sources said he was "in a daze" prior to his treatment. He was among four non-Malaysians injured outside the Cherry Blossom karaoke club in the Bukit Bintang tourist hub.
The three other foreigners who were injured included two mainland Chinese nationals and a Thai. A 36-year-old Malaysian car jockey was killed by the blast.
Gangland fighting is said to be behind the grenade explosion in the popular shopping district of Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning. Thirteen people, including tourists from Singapore, China and Thailand, were injured. One Malaysian victim has died.

Bukit Bintang blast is third bomb attack in Malaysia this year
KUALA LUMPUR -
An explosion outside a Kuala Lumpur pub on Thursday that killed one and injured 12 others is the third reported bomb attack this year, according to the New Straits Times.
On Sept 13, police arrested a man, 50, on suspicion of setting a booby trap with a hand grenade to kill his wife in Kampung Baru Subang.
The suspect, a former soldier, accused Ms Chong May Lun, 40, of cheating on him.
Ms Chong was unhurt when the grenade went off under her car, but the rear fender of her Toyota Vios came off and shrapnel penetrated the boot and rear passenger seats, Bernama reported.
In a separate incident, burglars in July bombed a bank in an attempted robbery but got away empty-handed at the Melati Industrial Park in Bukit Beruntung.
The homemade bomb damaged three automated teller machines, two cash deposit machines, two cash recycling machines and one check deposit machine, The Star reported, quoting the bank's assistant manager.
"The ceiling collapsed, causing a mess in the bank's service area. The tellers were damaged, but no money was removed from the machines," said Selangor deputy CID chief ACP Rooslan Radzi.
Like the two incidents, the third attack on Thursday morning at Jalan Bukit Bintang was not related to terrorism, say authorities.
Mr Ayob Khan Mydin, deputy chief of the Malaysian police's counter-terrorism division, said the incident was gangster-related. "We haven't narrowed down the motive," said Kuala Lumpur City Criminal Investigation Department Chief Gan Kong Meng. "We believe more than one person was involved in the incident."

Malaysia PM Najib vows to punish perpetrators of Bukit Bintang bomb attack
![](http://www.straitstimes.com/sites/straitstimes.com/files/imagecache/ST_REVAMP_2014_STORY_PAGE_640X360/20141009/AL-najib-0910e.jpg)
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak condemned a grenade attack on Thursday that killed one and injured 12 others in Bukit Bintang and vowed to bring the culprits to justice, The Malay Mail Online reported.
"I condemn in the strongest terms the violence that occurred this morning in Bukit Bintang," said Mr Najib in a brief statement. "Such lawlessness will not be tolerated.
The police investigation is underway, and the perpetrators of this crime will be found and brought to justice."
Police said the motive in the incident is being investigated, but another top police official said a gangland feud was suspected.
A heavily damaged minivan could be seen at the scene of the incident, which was roped off by a tight police presence.
Such incidents are generally rare in Muslim-majority Malaysia, but public concern has steadily grown over rising crime.
