Grand Slam ranking points
Players win twice as many points for a win in a Grand Slam match as they do for winning a match at the next level – ATP Tennis Masters Series and WTA Tour Tier Premier tournaments.
Electronic review
Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena, Margaret Court Arena and Show Courts 2 and 3 will utilise Hawk-Eye technology to conduct electronic reviews of disputed line calls. The Australian Open adopts the ‘three-plus-one’ electronic review system. Players will receive three incorrect challenges during each set and a fourth challenge if a set goes to a tiebreaker.
Scores and tennis action
All courts at Melbourne Park feature new scoreboards and screens. There are also bigger screens located all around the site including at Garden Square and Grand Slam Oval.
Practice sessions
An elevated viewing deck over major practice courts allows fans to see the stars of the game warming up. Super-wall type screens and information towers provide details on where and when the stars are practising.
Court surface
The vibrant Plexicushion surface enhances ball visibility. Trademarked as ‘Australian Open True Blue’, the courts are two-toned, allowing for greater contrast and improved depth perception.
Wilson balls
Wilson supplies more than 4000 dozen tennis balls for use during the tournament. Six new balls are used for the five-minute warm-up and the first seven games and six new balls are provided every nine games thereafter.
Illegal gambling and match fixing
Tennis Australia has a zero tolerance policy on illegal gambling, match-fixing and the communication of sensitive information that may affect the outcome of a match, and will investigate all reported instances.
Extreme heat policy
The decision on implementing the heat policy will take into account the forecast once the ambient temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, and the Wet Bulb Global Temperature (WBGT) reading exceeds 32.5.
?When conditions exceed these levels the Referee is taking into account the forecast and state of play when making his discretionary call.
?Matches currently in progress will continue until the end of an even number games in that set or completion of tie break.
?At the completion of the even number of games in that set or completion of tie break, play will be suspended.
?A roof will only be closed because of extreme heat if a decision has been made by the Referee to suspend the completion or commencement of matches on the outdoor courts; When the EHP has been implemented, the Tournament Referee will suspend the calling of any further matches on outside courts

According to Russian media reports, Maria Kirilenko was married in Moscow on Saturday. The 28-year-old was said to have had a wedding to a Russian businessman named Alexei, who she met several months ago. Several Russian players and former players were supposed to be in attendance.
Childhood friend Maria Sharapova said she had heard about the wedding. "I did actually. I'm not sure to who. I really don't know. I mean, wonderful actually," she told the press following her fourth-round match at the Australian Open.
Few personal details about the husband are known. "What happens in Russia stays in Russia," said Sharapova, smiling.
Kirikenko has reportedly cited privacy reasons for not revealing more about her husband, following her previously high-profile relationship with hockey player Alex Ovechkin, who she was engaged to until the pair ended their relationship six months ago.
Kirilenko, who has been repeatedly sidelined with injury, is now No. 189 in the WTA rankings.
