Tough fight ahead for Ikon finalists
KUALA LUMPUR: Singers Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty and Malaysian Idol winner Jaclyn Victor will battle it out in the Ikon Malaysia singing competition on July 28.
They will be joined by OAG and Flop Poppy in the group category, organisers of the show announced yesterday.
Two wildcard entries among the losing semi-finalists will be decided via SMS on July 18 to make it a six-contestant final.
They are soloists Asmawi (Mawi) Ani, Reshmonu, Farah Anuar, Daniel Lee, Dina Nadzir, Adam Mat Saman, Shanon Shah and Ezlynn, and groups Jinbara, May, Def Gab C, Gerhana Ska Cinta, Miwarna, Disagree and Amuk.
In the semi-final on July 4 at the Putrajaya Convention Centre in Putrajaya, Dayang performed her hits Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta, Ingin Ku Miliki and Dayang Sayang Kamu; Jaclyn performed Tiada Lagi Indah and Inilah Masanya; OAG sang its hit song Slumber while Flop Poppy rendered Sewaktu Dulu and Keliru.
OAG抯 leader Radhi Razali said the competition should be supported as it provided an avenue to showcase the best of new Malaysian music talents.
"Ikon Malaysia is a great contest which helps bring Malaysian music to a higher level and gives exposure to local performers."
Jaclyn said without contests like Ikon Malaysia, it would be difficult for local artistes to win fans in the region.
Seventy per cent of marks are determined by judges Ramli M S, Mac Chew and Jenny Chin, with SMS votes making up the remainder.
The solo and group winners will represent Malaysia to compete against artistes from Indonesia and the Philippines in the Ikon Asean finals on Aug 12.
Ikon Malaysia champion will receive US$2,500 (RM8,500) while the winner of the regional contest will take home US$25,000. |
