Allison Mack no longer a regular on 'Smallville'; CW confirms series to end after season 10

Allison Mack, who plays Chloe Sullivan on Smallville, says she will not be a regular cast member on the Superman drama show's tenth season, which the CW network confirmed will be its last.

"I’m truly humbled by the love and loyalty of all the fans whose enthusiasm has carried me — along with a cast and crew that has become my second family — over the past nine and a half years," Entertainment Weekly magazine quoted the 27-year-old as saying.

"Out of respect for the amazingly loyal fans and the place I will always have in my own heart for Chloe, I’m coming back for several episodes next season to tie up Chloe’s Smallville legacy properly," she said. "It’s been a life-changing ride and I look forward to what lies ahead with the strength of a ‘superhero’ as my foundation."

The CW has not detailed Mack's role in the upcoming tenth season, which is set to air in the fall. Reports Smallville was canceled were released on Wednesday. Ratings for Smallville, which stars Tom Welling as a young Superman, have fallen from more than eight million viewers to about 2.5 since it debuted in 2001.

The final season of Smallville will be a nostalgic one with many people who have been on the show over the years returning, the Associated Press quoted Dawn Ostroff, the CW's entertainment president, as saying.

The network, owned by CBS and Warner Bros., also confirmed a 2009 remake of the drama series Melrose Place was canceled.
