Uhm Tae Woong of KBS2’s The Equator Man passed his baton on to Ju Won of Bridal Mask.
On May 30, the three main channels revealed their new Wed-Thu dramas, and KBS2’s new player was Ju Won’s Bridal Mask.
The drama is based on the manga by Huh Yung Man, and is about the Korean superhero Bridal Mask fighting against Japan in the 1930s, when Korea was under Japanese colonial rule. It will be a blockbuster drama that cost over 10 billion won to produce.
The most notable features in the first episode were Ju Won’s deadly charms.
Ju Won appears in the drama as Lee Kang To, a detective at the Jongno Police Agency. He became the biggest officer in the Jongno Police Agency after he became determined to succeed when he saw his brother Lee Kang San (Shin Hyeon Joon) reduced to a fool after fighting for Korea’s independence. Soon, however, he accepts his destiny and takes on the life of the nameless hero Bridal Mask.
Ju Won’s transformation was definitely made clear in the drama. While he was guarding Lee Gong’s funeral ceremony, Oh Mok Dan (Jin Se Yeon) threw stones at the body and ran away, and when he caught up with her he showed her no mercy. In the next scene, however, he then showed off new charms as a ‘society king’.
His transformation especially drew interest because it was completely different from his image in KBS2’s 1 Night, 2 Days.
He’s the cute youngest member of the 1 Night, 2 Days group, but he managed to turn into a brutal and strict officer for the drama. Bridal Mask thus started leading the race with 12.7 percent viewership ratings (AGB Nielsen Media Research), beating out MBC’s I Do I Do and SBS’ Ghost.
he interesting thing is that Ju Won’s change in character continues 1 Night, 2 Days Uhm Tae Woong’s change in character.
Uhm Tae Woong led Bridal Mask’s predecessor, The Equator Man, to success with his charismatic acting.
As the revengeful Kim Sun Woo, Uhm Tae Woong successfully portrayed the complicated emotions of revenge, love and forgiveness that went through his character. The power of his new image was all the greater because he also was one of the calmer and cuter characters in 1 Night, 2 Days.
The brothers of 1 Night, 2 Days thus successfully passed on the baton. Uhm Tae Woong and Ju Won first established ties through their film S.I.U., and those ties led to their appearance in 1 Night, 2 Days.
The reason their charisma shone brighter was because they were kept hidden in the variety show. Their images in 1 Night, 2 Days are, of course, the way they probably really are in real life.
The real value of actors is based on how much they become immersed in their roles. The cute brothers of 1 Night, 2 Days thus managed to shine again.
