Communization of Hong Kong

Beijing had rule out HK's 2007 direct elections for next chief executive.
Looks like the agreed "One Country, Two System" is a farce. This system was also a model for Taiwan.
pro-democracy groups in Hong Kong complaining that Beijing has killed off the system, in Taipei people may be asking themselves: "If that's what autonomy within China amounts to, is it really what we want?" |

Actually, the Chinese are not communists anymore. They have abandoned sole public owner and planned economy. HK can never embrace communism even if they want to. The above survey is therefore nonsensical. |

It isn't nonsensical to me when Beijing had announced disapproval of a democratic election for HK.
China may seems to be on path to transform itself into democratic capitalism but they are STILL Communists. We can never be sure if they are cloaking themselves under capitalist notions. |

China...officially a communist country..Their higher level of government administration is communist in nature..Business however is getting more capitalistic...Good sign of growth.. |

The very idea of communism runs counter to capitalism. China may be autocratic country, but it certainly isn't communist anymore.
In other words, yu may want to rephrase your survey and title just so that it will make sense. |

One might wonder if their principle can be bent. Something flexible could be adopted.
Something like American democracy somehow is heading toward dictatorship. This is a debated issue in Britain. They call it "America sleepwalks into Fascism".
The premise of the assertion is that certain factions are terrorised into renouncing rebuke of the government's policy. One example is how Dixie Chicks cried on TV apologizing for their remarks in London's concert whereby they openly criticize Bush who also happens to be from their cowboy state. Dixie Chicks received cheers from the Brits in the concert but was tremendously pressured & ostracized in back in the US. British contends there's no more freedom of speech as Bush is like imposing iron fist on its people's dissent. Nothing brutal of course but harsh suppression.
So, if America possess autocratic elements but still consider themselves democratic. China is autocratic but are open in its economic principle but still consider themselves ... Communists. |

Yu know very well how the British public is baised and blinded. How can US by a dictatorship when they have free elections every 4 years?
Dixie Chicks was condemned by the public, not by the govt. The people were exercising freespeech too. Why do you allow only freespeech for the Chicks and not for others? Thats what leftsist bigotry is all about isn't it?

I've had this discussion elsewhere Heax. In fact, they've said the democrats in HK have failed politics. They should be giving the Communists in Beijing confidence before anything POLITICALLY DEMOCRATIC may be enforced in HK. HK can be a pilot region for Beijing to see its success.
China is on the way to change into democracy but they just cannot turn overnight or there will be unrest. Therefore, the onus is on the democrats in HK to frequently travel to Beijing like our Tunku Abd Rahman negotiate with British to talk about democracy for its people. It just needs time. It would be impossible for the Commies to be without suspicion of the way things are going in HK for HongKies themselves never had democratically elected leader under British also. |

The hongkie democrats are silly people, too anti and unconstructive in their approach. In a sense, I think they are too childish and they lose focus.
What is the point of antagonising China? How do Hongkies benefit from all these nonsense?
Yu can forget abt Beijing trusting them, they already ruined themselves & it backfired on HK democrasy.
The best way to achieve democrasy in China is to first Christianise China. Jiang Zemin realised that and have said so. Thats why they close one eye on the phenomenal growth of Christainity and allowed thousands of missionaries into China. |

I agree with you Debmey that Hongkie democrats are too clumsy in their approach. Very unconstructive & very impractical.
However, .... Christianity??:hmm: what is this? |

Jiang realised after studying history and sociology that the secret to the success of westen nations is their christan values.
if yu liberalise china w/o these values, there will surely be chaos. just look at wat is happening in democrasies like india and taiwan. |

Beijing wants the land it lend to the British in late 1800s back to its own empire and Hong Kong wants to crawl away and become a separate state like Taiwan and Singapore.
Advantage of having HK in China is that China could get more financial gain from this island and at the same time have a international port from which it could ship its goods.
Disadvantage ... most likely that the people who lived in democratic way in HK will "spoilt" the mindset of China's people if they were allowed to rejoin back. It happened in Russia before when the President allowed new ideas to flow into Rusia in early 1990s.
Advantage for HK ... better security and market for its product to the people of China (which are about 1 Billion).
Disadvantage ... most likely it has to help out - financial and socially to contributing to the poor people of China and the worse of them all, the possibility that HK and its people will lose their politics independance. |

Dixie Chicks was condemned by masses brainwashed by Bush propaganda, who led them to believe that anyone who opposes them are "unpatriotic" and "unAmerican".;)

If China is Christianised, it will turn into another dictatorial country like U.S
The Puritans "escaped" to America when Europe is getting secularised. Why has America oppressed the world? Because it is controlled by fundie Christians like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham and such. The support of Zionism of Israel is a glaring example of America's purpose to "fulfil God's Word" (George W Bush is a fundy Christian who once claimed that atheists do not deserve to be Americans).
This war on terrorism is a two-way jihad between Christianity and Islam, hell bent on winning the cause for the "Lord".
so China is better be secularized like E.U.
bleh, sorry for the glaring off-topic reply.
