Body measurements didn't reflect the BMI

I'm not sure if I could find any thread relating to this, but if the thread already exists, I don't mind my this thread being merged to the existing thread (thanks mod!)
Here's the thing, I just did my regular medical check-up last Thursday and apparently my BMI is 23.4. Which is worrying because it's borderline overweight And the fact that female doctor quietly sneered at me didn't help my case at all
This puzzles me because I'm the type of person who goes to the gym 4 hours a week and I typically skip dinner. I watch my food portion, never over-indulge on food, yet my BMI is worrying.
Can someone shed the light on this? What caused my weight to gain despite I put in all effort to have a healthy lifestyle? |

bmi doesnt apply to bodybuilders. and oregnant ladies, children below 12 for example
it is a general guide for general population
and bmi cut off utk overweight for malaysian slighly lower than westerners.
so to look at good health generally u need to see from combination of various parameters for example your waist/hip ratio, blood parameter yearly eg lipid profile, fasting sugar level, your blood pressure monitoring etc

sorry, didnt realize there was this thread here.
however, @bulanbulat has given u very good answer there.
most important thing to know is that BMi doesnot take into account muscle mass.
Many athletes are trully really healthy but with a higher than normal BMI.
However, higher BMI does correlate with higher risks of death overall, esp with cardiovascular ones.
This is due to the fact that BMI is correlated to risks for development of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypercholesterolaemia, Hypertension and development of certain cancers.
BMI also correlates with many co morbids, eg osteoarthritis, back pain etc.
No, the nurse shouldnt have sneered at you.
