Attractions Marrakech Bahia Palace
The Bahia Palace is a palace and a set of gardens located in Marrakech, Morocco. It was built in the late 19th century, intended to be the greatest palace of its time. The name means "brilliance". As in other buildings of the period in other countries, it was intended to capture the essence of the Islamic and Moroccan style. There is a 2 acre (8,000 m2) garden with rooms opening onto courtyards.
Set up at the end of 19th century by Si Moussa, grand vizier of the sultan, for his personal use, this palace would bear the name of one of his wives. Here, the harem, which includes a vast court decorated with a central basin and surrounded by rooms intended for the concubines. As the black slave Abu Ahmed rose to power and wealth towards the end of the 19th century, he had the Bahia palace built by bringing in craftsmen from Fez.
How could you leave out of Medina, not having seen his remarkable palaces that were built by the sultans to their concubines. One of these palaces became the Bahia Palace.

On foot using map, we got to the Palais de la Bahia just such a name is this Palace in the original. But the Palace was still closed and tourists still were not allowed inside.

At the entrance we were met by a member of the Palace and offered us pass the time by visiting the Jewish market located next door. The beauty of that visit was that the market is in the Jewish part of the City known as Mellah neighbourhood (Mellach) and could only visit it today on Friday as on Saturday it did not work. Saturday is considered sacred for Jews, the day in which they no longer work.

Mellach-is the oldest quarter of the city of Marrakech, a town he's Jewish. Mellach was founded in the 16th century. Since ancient times, and nowadays is inhabited by Muslims and Jews, which, despite the mutual hostility, manages to get along here.

4.

In 60 of the last century many Jews left for Israel, but walking around the quarter you can recognize those homes who built more Jews due to the presence of wooden balconies. By following the Guide, we hit on a regular indoor ranges, which traded various spices and natural cosmetics.

5.

All the way we had to listen to his stories, which makes it for us unselfishly, just wants to talk with someone in English. We noticed it instantly, because knowledge of the language we have a conversational level and deal with errors. As we learned later, got into another trap, deftly set for local traders and people who are lured to them and receive a percentage of the transaction. Buying souvenirs on 200 dirhams, originally a merchant wanted to get with us all 300, later comparing the prices, we learned that the price of this product well up to 100 dirhams.

But it was this divorce something pleasant, we previously knew that in Mellach has one old synagogue that and decided to find and was given to us is not easy. A solid hour we šastali through the narrow streets of the back and forth. They asked passers-by, but also in the area of their native language, and no one knew. After a long search, we have been rewarded, and ûrknuv through the nefarious arch hit the synagogue.

6.

Admission ticket there does not exist and each leaves donations who can.

The Palace, like a mysterious casket where doors lead from the living rooms in private gardens with fountains and formal living rooms cannot get into the living quarters of the households. Thus, the Palace is an indicator of Arab philosophy about the House — all personal kept away from the eyes. This principle applies to the modern architecture, where the outside of the House is decorated so as not to cause envy in others, and the Interior of the House with its beauty.

After the construction of the Bahia Palace has surpassed in its beauty and refinement even palaces of the Sultan. That was the last Palace has a beautiful traditional mosaic, carved wood and painted pine doors and ceilings. great envy. The ruler of Morocco, Sultan Abd al-Aziz, a situation very much like. As a result, once in 1900, the Grand Vizier Sidi Moussa died, he gave the order to loot the Palace of Bahia.

The Palace is interesting for its confusing layout of rooms in the form of a maze and decorated interior. If you watch it from the outside, it may seem pretty dull, but it is only at first glance.

Today, not all parts of the Palace are open to the public. The entire second floor and a large part of the Palace remains, sadly closed. Since we were in Morocco in August, in one of the hottest months of the year, we were able to hide from the heat for the cool walls of the Palace. A few hours spent in the cool of the US benefited from, and we were able to move on to the conquest of Marrakech.

A lot of interesting information on the website:www.duliebstravel.org
