KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — A grandmother was murdered by her 18-year-old grandson who was believed to have struck her with a rock in their home in Taman Desa in Kuala Garing, Rawang, yesterday. Yatim, the 65-year-old Indonesian woman, was found sprawled beside a pool of blood by neighbours who rushed to the house upon hearing shouts and screams from the single-storey house. Gombak district police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said police received a call from residents at about 3pm. A forensic team went to the scene. “Based on initial investigations and statements by witnesses, we believe a quarrel took place between the victim and her grandson,” said Ali. He said the suspect, who did not live in that house, went there in the afternoon to ask for money from his mother, Maryaton Rai, 39. “He wanted money from his mother but she was not at home. The grandmother was there instead. Both the suspect and victim got into an argument after she apparently refused him money,” he said. Ali said the suspect was believed to have attacked Yatim with a rock and fled the scene when she fell unconscious. “Some residents saw the suspect running from the house. The victim suffered a fractured skull and injuries on her forehead,” he said. “We dispatched a police canine unit to the scene to track down the suspect. No arrests have been made yet.” Police said a gold chain, two gold lockets and some money were reported missing from the house. Ali said police were also investigating if the suspect was a drug addict. The suspect, who is believed to be unemployed, regularly demanded money from his mother. Yatim’s body was sent to the Selayang Hospital where a post-mortem is scheduled for today. The case has been classified as murder. MMail
