MALACCA: A Form One student of the Mara Junior Science College in Alor Gajah near here died more than 40 hours after he was struck by lightning. Johan Jasmin, 13, died at about 5.30pm yesterday while being treated at the Malacca Hospital’s intensive care unit. Johan’s body was taken to his family home in Bukit Jelutong, Selangor, and will be buried at Seksyen 21 Muslim cemetery in Shah Alam at 10am today. In the incident on Monday, the younger of two siblings was struck by lightning at his school field while on his way to the hostel at 6.05pm. Earlier, the victim was playing basketball with a group of friends in the school field. A teacher who heard thunder and saw lightning in the sky then instructed the group to stop their activity and go back to their hostels. However, just as Johan and his friends were making their way to their hostels, he was suddenly struck by lightning and collapsed on the field. -The Star.
