After rumours that 'Captain America 3' would face off against 'Batman vs. Superman', it looks as though Marvel has confirmed this unbelievable clash of the comic book titans…

That's right folks - it looks as though Marvel Studios has taken aim at DC's Dark Knight with their very own summer 2016 release… officially giving 'Captain America 3' the same release date as 'Batman vs. Superman'. But who will come out on top? I can't help thinking that Steve Rogers might just give the Man of Steel a run for his money.

According to an official press release from Marvel Studios, Captain America will return to our screens on 6 May, 2016… putting Steve Rogers up against the two biggest members of DC's Justice League.

"Following the record-breaking premiere of Marvel's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' this past weekend, the First Avenger will jump into his next big screen solo adventure in just a little more than two years on May 6, 2016!"

And it looks as though 'Captain America' actor Chris Evans is going to have a busy couple of years ahead of him… with 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' set to appear in cinemas next year.

"Before the untitled 'Captain America 3' hits theaters though, fans can next see Cap when he joins the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes once more in Marvel's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' on May 1, 2015!"

Of course, little else is known about the upcoming 'Captain America 3'… but one thing's for certain - it's bound to cause Warner Bros. plenty of headaches.

'Batman vs. Superman' is already highly-anticipated by comic book fans… and for good reason. After all, it pits two of the most recognisable superheroes of all time up against each other. But 'Captain America' is fast becoming a bankable franchise in its own right. And after the huge success of 'The Winter Soldier' it's likely that Cap's next sequel is going to draw quite a crowd.

But will Warner Bros. back away from this shared release date?

If you ask me, it makes a lot of sense… especially when you consider that the later weekend of 24 June is yet to accommodate a major release. Of course, there's currently not even a hint that Warner Bros. is considering moving their big summer blockbuster. And if they did, this could make Warner Bros. look as though they were bowing down to Marvel.

But it might be better for their box office takings if Batman returned to the shadows for just a couple more weeks.
