 Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim says his wife, Puan Sri Salbiah Tunut, is entitled to a personal assistant in her capacity as the head of the Selangor Women's Welfare and Charity Organisation. The Selangor menteri besar said the cost of the personal assistant was borne by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI). "Salbiah needs a personal assistant to manage her social welfare tasks involving the lower-income group," he said in reply to Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib at the state assembly today. Saari had questioned the allocation for a personal assistant for Khalid's wife. Khalid said MBI did not provide any allowance to Salbiah or any of the Selangor Women's Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) committee members. "Salbiah was appointed to her Pekawanis position by the Selangor legislative assembly," he said. Khalid said Salbiah's personal assistant, who is also the Pekawanis secretary, was appointed by MBI on a two-year contract. The terms of the contract include salary, allowance, mobile phone allowance and insurance. "As the personal assistant is working under a government-linked company, the individual is entitled to the same benefits as an MBI employee, including bonus of 1½ months," he said. "My wife does not need to be paid bonus but because her personal assistant is an MBI employee, the individual will receive the same benefits as other MBI personnel." Pekawanis was formed in 2008 and focuses on social welfare work, especially involving those who are poverty stricken and single mothers. – April 16, 2014. TMI
