Heli crash: Photo of Dzuriasikim Dzulkefli went viral, wrongfully described as co-pilot
KUALA LUMPUR: “Its very unethical for the media to use my photo, without verifying the identity,” said Dzuriasikim Dzulkefli, who’s photograph had been wrongfully circulated/described as the co-pilot in the Semenyih helicopter crash at Kampung Pasir Baru, yesterday evening.
Speaking to the New Straits Times at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary today morning, the Assistant Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Special Projects at a private aviation company said she was shocked when a daily Chinese newspaper had her picture on the frontpage along with five others who died in the helicopter crash.
"I was really shocked that some people had irresponsibly 'declared' me dead, just because the photograph showed pilot Clifford William Fournier and I in a helicopter ".
Dzuriasikim said she learnt of the mistaken identity photo at about 7pm when she received calls and messages from friends and family checking on her.
"They told me my photo with Cliff had been mistook and that it had become viral on a few social networking sites and Whatsapp groups" said the 46-year-old.
A selfie photograph of Dzuriasikim and the crashed helicopter pilot, was posted on her Facebook wall had gone viral when she was presumed as Aidana Baizieva, the co-pilot of the crashed Eurocopter AS365N2 Dauphin yesterday.
"At first, I didn't bother about the posting cause I was still distorted over Cliff's passing... But after seeing the evening Chinese daily, I made efforts to clarify the matter," said Dzuriasikim, adding that the photograph was taken on Feb 13 when Fournier took her flying around Subang in his copter.
Having known Fournier through the aviation industry, Dzuriasikim described him as a close friend and someone humble.
She said she last met the pilot during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) and just chatted with him on Friday night.
Fournier has been in Malaysia for more than 20 years and his family home is in Damansara. He too has his own helicopter hanger in Subang.
Apart from social media, a local television station that also used Dzuriasikim photograph describing her as the co-pilot who perished in the crash.
“I know I can't do much to stop it from spreading but I hope the picture is not circulated or misused as the deceased who co-piloted the crashed helicopter in future.”
