Beyonce made a surprise appearance and One Direction were barely off the screen but the 2014 BRIT Awards just couldn't pull in the viewers last night after scoring the lowest ratings so far of the 21st century on ITV1 – although ironically, it did become the most talked about TV show in the UK on Twitter. Taking place at London's O2 Arena, the awards bash was hosted by James Corden for the fifth and final time and saw the likes of Beyonce, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars grace the stage to perform however, it seems it just wasn't enough to keep the public interested. According to NME.com, last night's show only managed to draw in 4.56 million viewers which includes a further 359,000 viewers who watched on ITV+1, a huge drop in comparison to 2013's figures of 6.5 million which was also the show's best ratings since 2003. The reported numbers may come as a surprise considering it is said to be the most tweeted about TV show on Twitter in UK history with a reported 2.17 million messages about the BRITs posted. The social media interaction was no doubt boosted by the awards' first ever live online voting system for British Video which One Direction won for 'Best Song Ever.' According to The Mirror, the most retweeted message during the broadcast came from Harry Styles who reacted after winning the video gong with the message receiving more than 163,000 retweets and over 200,000 favourites. “Thank you to everyone who's voting... We love you until it almost hurts in special places,” he posted. It is reported that there were 78,000 tweets every 60 seconds. Via: Entertainmentwise
