 BARCELONA, Feb 26 — Sony is going from SmartWatch to SmartBand next month with the release of the Sony SmartBand SWR10. Product confirmation occurred at Mobile World Conference in Barcelona following the device’s introduction at the International Consumer Electronics Show in January. “At CES 2014, I introduced SmartWear Experience as representing emotion as well as motion — moving, and being moved,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO, Sony Mobile Communications. “Now we can reveal exactly what this means, as we bring our first products to market this spring — SmartBand and its innovative core extend beyond fitness tracking, to add colourful, fun entertainment experiences to users’ lives.” The first device powered by Sony’s new Core fitness tracking technology, the product will launch in 60 countries and features the Lifelog Android app. Lifelog is designed to track users’ exercise routines as well as other lifestyle habits, including where they go, what books they read, pictures they take and music they listen to, all presented on a “beautifully visual interface”. The app connects to SmartBand via NFC or Bluetooth and will provide users with future entertainment content options in addition to helping them set activity goals and monitoring their progress. SmartBand SWR10 is also completely waterproof and designed for continuous wear. Its Core module is removable. The band is currently designed in black, though a number of colour options will be accessible after the launch. No pricing information is yet available, although industry experts are already wondering how the device will compare to other popular fitness trackers, including those from Nike, Adidas, Fitbit, Jawbone and Fitbug. — AFP-Relaxnews
