Is it really "an honor just to be nominated"? Seems like no matter how sincerely they say it, all actors want to win that most coveted of acting honors, the Academy Award. Oscar gold. Technically, it's gold-plated britannia metal. That's the stuff dreams are made of! Since the Motion Picture Academy's first Oscars ceremony in 1929, many worthy actors have received statuettes for outstanding lead and supporting performances. Yet Oscar has eluded some of Hollywood's greatest icons, including James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen, Cary Grant and Peter O'Toole. However, Grant and O'Toole received honorary Oscars late in life for their career achievements. Sadly, those legends have passed, along with their Oscar chances. But for Leonardo DiCaprio, Glenn Close and more stars who have never won an Oscar, that Hollywood dream is very much alive—and has been for a while. You may be surprised to see whose mantels still remain Oscar-less, since many are A-list stars, multiple nominees or seasoned actors who have delivered indelible performances. Eonline
