Not sure where the first thread go, so I'm making a new one.
In Malaysia, the biggest news (in Hindus society now) is the Holy Pilgrim of about 250 people or so (not sure the exact number) taking part in a walk from Batu Caves (Kuala Lumpur) to Marang Murugan Temple in Pahang, roughly 130 miles away. It should have started this morning (08/04/2006). It supposed to last 3 days.
I have been to Marang temple last Chinese New Year with friends. A relative of mine (Brother to my mother) stays in Bera, Pahang so on the way to visit them, I have stopped by this temple. It's a very nice, peaceful place. |

It's not a Marathon, it's a Pilgramage.
Sad ... newspapers didn't cover it (I cannot read Tamil or Chinese for that matter ... no problem reading Japanese though). I watched TV, hoping to get a glimpse of it on news at 8.00. Nothing also.
Stupid media ... they forget to cover over 100 people taking part on a pilgrimage but have no problem covering nonsense like boat capsizing and such. <.< |

Mon May 29, 11:45 AM ET
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - A group of prominent Indians called on Monday for national talks between Maoist rebels and the government, while also demanding an end to a controversial anti-rebel campaign in the worst-affected state of Chhattisgarh.
Indian Maoists claim to fight for the rights of poor peasants and landless laborers. They control huge swathes of rural India along its eastern flank.
Thousands have been killed in the three-decade-old movement and as per latest official figures, more than 1,200 people have been killed in over 2,000 incidents of Maoist violence since 2005 and up to April this year. Nearly 750 of them were civilians.
The densely-forested central state of Chhattisgarh is among the worst-affected and in particular, Dantewada district, which is regarded a Maoist hub.
Same story like in Malaysia before. Communist tried to fight the government and take over. But in Malaysia, ruthless attacks and strong defense in form of its people's unity managed to break the Communist hold, forcing them to surrender in late 1980s. In India, things don't look so good. There's too many supportive of Communist.
Frankly speaking, since Atheist/Communist doesn't believe in God, they should be considered as dangerous animals and shoot on sight. ;) |

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Police stepped up security across India on Wednesday after bombs killed more than 160 people and wounded hundreds in packed commuter trains and stations in the financial hub, Mumbai.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks but suspicion was likely to center on Muslim militants fighting New Delhi's rule in disputed Kashmir, who have been blamed for several bomb attacks in India in the past.
Extra security was brought in countrywide both to prevent any further attacks and to guard against any possible backlash against the minority Muslim community.
The blasts brought worldwide expressions of outrage.
"We condemn thoroughly this terrible terrorist incident," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told reporters in Washington. "We will stand with India in the war on terror."
Police inspector Ashok Jadhav told Reuters the bomb blasts had killed 163 people and wounded around 460.

WASHINGTON - President Bush expressed outrage Tuesday at the deadly attacks on commuter trains in India and said the United States stood with India in the war on terror.
"The United States stands with the people and the government of India and condemns in the strongest terms these atrocities, which were committed against innocent people as they went about their daily lives," Bush said in a written statement issued Tuesday evening while he was traveling in Wisconsin.
"Such acts only strengthen the resolve of the international community to stand united against terrorism and to declare unequivocally that there is no justification for the vicious murder of innocent people," he said.

You know, I noticed one thing during this crisis. Hindus always looked down as Caste-oriented people with no unity among them. But during this crisis, I see many Hindus come together and help each other without bothering about Caste and such.
Even some Muslims come forth and donate blood (probably to lessen the impact of what other Muslims did) an Hindus accept this without problem. This should teach people who looks down on Hindus as Caste-oriented people a lesson. |

200 people died and only thing India capable of is PEACE MARCH?
This is MY OPINION :
Why is War against Terrorism not working against terrorist?
Last Wednesday, I was turn to Astro Vaanavil at about 10.00 and saw an interesting Tamil movie called "Neethi" (Justice), starred by the late (and my favorite) star - Shivaji Ganesan.
It was about a driver who was drunk and drive till he cause death to a poor farmer. The Judge who handle the case was confronted by the family of the dead man and pleaded that they too should be punished because the dead man was the sole provider for the family and without him, the family is doomed.
The Judge brought an interesting arguement toward the Panel of Judges which made me remember the bombing incident in India. According to the Judge, the current justice system exists to punish those who commit the crime in purpose while help those who did it accidentally amend their ways. At the same time, the Justice System should be useful to help the victims as well.
How does this apply to Terrorists?
Terrorists DOES IT ON PURPOSE and therefore, they should be held as criminals against Humanity. Unfortunately here, Justice System which we use now is a slow process and more toward safeguarding everyone's interest, NOT punishing anyone. Terrorists use this to their advantage because they know :
1. They have to be caught.
2. They will get lengthy trial which is a waste of time and money.
3. Most likely they will get imprisonment which they fear not.
In this system, the victims get nothing. They still targets of other terrorists and those already caught will get a lenghty trial and the whole process slowly grinding the Justice System to a stand-still. Something new should be done - terrorists should be dealt as criminals already tried and waiting for execution in battle field.
Also, people who help criminals are considered criminals as well according to Common Laws and that is what those (Seculars) who help this Terrorists should be considered and dealt as. Banks which deals with Terrorists should be cut away from International Banking System, countries which support terrorism or hinder Justice should be pushed aside and let them handle their own affairs without support of the International Community. |

Today's STAR newspaper (dated July 19, 2006) :
[Qoute]
12 temples had to make way for developments in Klang Valley over the last few months as they were deemed illegal structures by the local authorities.
Hmm ... WHY temples which had been around since 1930s (which by right should be protected under Act Warisan) SUDDENLY become "illegal" in just one year? :hmm:
I have noticed that since the new statue of Lord Murugan opened in Batu Caves (last January I think), SUDDENLY, local authorities start their own "wars" against Hindu temples by stating some of it are illegal and have to make way for developments. |

By BISWAJEET BANERJEE, Associated Press Writer Mon Jan 8, 7:41 PM ET
LUCKNOW, India - Thousands of Hindu holy men threatened Monday to boycott ceremonies at a weeks-long pilgrimage to wash away their sins in the Ganges, saying the divine river was too polluted.
The saffron-clad, ash-smeared holy men, or sadhus, gathered at the fair grounds in Allahabad to demand the state of the waters be improved by Jan. 12, the date of the next great immersion. Allahabad, the venue of the "Ardh Kumbh Mela" or Half Grand Pitcher festival, is nearly 120 miles southeast of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state.
"Millions of people are taking baths in this river because Hindus consider the Ganges a pious river," said Hari Chaitanaya Brahmachari, a leading Hindu holy man and head of a local monastery. "But the fact is they are taking a dip not in river water but in effluents discharged from factories."
Nearly 70 million Hindus are expected to participate in the 45-day festival, one of the largest regular gatherings in the world. They bathe in the waters of the Ganges in the belief that it washes away their sins and ends the process of reincarnation. However the waters have become polluted, both by the recent offerings of flowers and food cast in by the millions of pilgrims and by years of contamination as industries have dumped waste and cities pumped sewage into the river.
[/Qoute]
Instead of bycotting the ceremony, this fellows should march to New Delhi, grab hold of those idiots running the government there, drag them back to Lucknow and dump them into this polluted river. |

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela joined top leaders, nobel laureates and elder statesmen on Monday calling on the world to reinvent Indian freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi's non-violent approach to solving conflicts. Mandela, who spent 28 years in prison for fighting white rule before leading South Africa to multi-racial democracy as the country's first black president in 1994, said Gandhi's non-violent approach which won India freedom from British colonial rule 60 years ago was an inspiration.
"His philosophy contributed in no small measure to bringing about a peaceful transformation in South Africa and in healing the destructive human divisions that had been spawned by the abhorrent practice of apartheid," said Mandela.
The 88-year-old statesman was addressing a conference, through a satellite link from South Africa, to mark the centenary of Gandhi's "satyagraha" or non-violent movement which began in Johannesburg on Sept 11, 1906, where Gandhi was practicing law. Gandhi lived in South Africa from 1893 to 1914, where he was an active and high profile political activist.
It was natural to question whether Gandhi's philosophy was feasible in today's world, but that it was possible to use it as a tool and adapt to conflict resolution. she said.
"It would be a grave error to write-off the Gandhian approach as irrelevant to our age," she said.
[/Qoute]
Hmm ... I wonder if Mahatma Gandhi's methods could really work on Muslims as well?
Could it work on people like Ahmednijab, Saddam and Osama who puts their daydreams above the suffering of others? :hmm: |

JODHPUR, India (AFP) - An Indian court will this week hear testimony that British model Elizabeth Hurley and her husband Arun Nayar mocked Hindu traditions with their "showcase" wedding, a laywer said Tuesday
A decision whether the glamorous couple should be prosecuted in the desert city of Jodhpur -- where they wed a month ago but may now risk jail -- could come as early as next week, said lawyer Hastimal Saraswat.
The pair staged a lavish ceremony at a Rajasthan fort that was exclusively covered by celebrity magazine Hello!, which reportedly paid two million pounds (3.9 million dollars) for the rights. But after seeing the pictures in the magazine, an angry Jodhpur resident hired Saraswat to take legal action.
Khandelwal said he was upset when he saw Hurley and Nayar had taken alcohol prior to the religious rites and kissed near the sacred fire that Hindus hold to be the witness to the marriage.
"They sat on a sofa and they were supposed to sit on the floor," Khandelwal added.
The bride's own father-in-law is considering testifying against the couple in the case, the lawyer said. Vinod Nayar told Sunday tabloids in Britain he had severed ties with his son after the younger Nayar ejected him from the marriage proceedings at Hurley's behest.

****What more, when prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has called on all politicians to respect every decent Malaysian as a member of the large Malaysian Family.
If Jamaludin is truly a gentleman, he should apologise to Sheela for his slip of tongue. It has made the Malaysian government appear as one that mistreats Indian Malaysians who form 10 per cent of the country抯 population.
As what I understand, Sheela Moorthy has made the complaint to the Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and other related agencies, including the Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador of Malaysia to U.S., Consulate General of Malaysia in U.S. and the Commission of Human Rights of U.S. Sheena is currently trying to gather the signatures of all students there.
