asskum..salam ramadhan...!

Ada sesapa tak kat sini hantar anak kat KUMON? Pusat tusyen tu khabarnya bagus, tapi hanya subjek english dan math diajar.
Berkesan tak? Anak saya (darjah 3) ni bole dikira kureng sikit dlm subjek English. Bab menulis karangan memang out..!
Susah hati saya sebab tak lama lagi nak UPSR..! Bole ke dia catch up?

NO,

Ada masa utk anak you catch up, dont worry cuma jangan lepas tangan kat whatever tuition centre yang you hantar. Kat rumah kene suruh dia baca English books banyak2, so that vocab dia ok. Then bestla essays yang dia boleh buat.

No comments on Kumon, tapi mac hantar anak mac belajar english di Smart Reader.... bukan Smart Reader kindy ye... tapi Smart Reader khusus utk belajar English. 2 of my children completed Level 10 Smart REader, alhamdulillah they speak good English.... kebetulan kawan2 mereka mostly non-malays.... so they communicate in English most of the time in school. Mac baru startkan my 6 yr old son... dia masuk class Level 2 Smart Reader, my std 1 doter pulak this Nov masuk Level 6 Smart Reader....

Smart Reader RM80 per month.

Bab2 belajar English ni.... sebenarnya mana2 pun elok.... KUMON pun well established and well known.... tapi yg membuatkan samada the child will IMPROVE verbally and theoritically is whether dia nak belajar atau tidak.... itu aje... so as parents kita kena trigger their interest. On top of that kena suruh dia baca english books banyak2 and also yang penting sekali, kena communicate..... tak boleh malu (if tak biasa)

Kawan mac, anak dia pemalu.... masuk Smart Reader, masuk English Cambridge.... tapi dok tang tu juga.... sebab dia malu nak communicate. Akan tetapi grammer and vocab dia ok jugakla sbb dia rajin baca english books....

Kita dulu berpuluh-puluh tahun belajar English grammar tapi tak jugak fluent....sebab kita tak banyak guna. Tengok budak-budak sekarang yang pergi tadika english medium biasa tanpa gi any extra english classes, their command of english masih baik sebab hari-hari guna.  Budak-budak generally cepat tangkap language melainkan kalau kita tak expose diorang to it.

betul kak Fie....

sebenarnya... kalau a child speaks English daily..... sebenarnya tak perlu pergi tuition English mana2.....

Actually Mac tak plan nak hantar anak Mac ke Smart Reader, tapi bila Government tukarkan silibus Maths and Science in English..... Mac nak anak2 Mac have PERFECT command of English..... takmau pulak Maths and Science dia tak dapat score just because English barrier.... I told my children.... I want you to grasp the English language as if you are a Mat Salleh... hehehe...

mcm budak sekolah menengah skrg & students IPTA. tak reti english! but most top schools or sekolah bestari/sekolah cerdik/sekolah wawasan bla bla bla no problem. Ramai my father's friends komplen local grads tak reti english! Diorg ckp, tahap critical betul! i mula2 mcm tak percaya like,.. is  it that bad.. but most of them said "verrryyy... bbbaaaaadd!!"

if i'm not mistaken, i heard Nazir abdul razak, CEO CIMB last night said "most people are already 'boring' with the bla,, bla.. bla.. bla..."  correct me if i heard it wrong!

but then again,.. pandai english ka, tak pandai english ka,.. paling penting work hard & pandai buat kerja.
Ramai i tgk tokeh2 cina successful, kaya raya, english lintang pukang jugak! ada sorang tokeh restaurant in NZ who cant speak english despite living in NZ for many years tapi dia dah bukak several outlet in NZ!

My daughter is fluent in english & Penang! hahaha.. right now, dia asyik sibuk tny what do you call this & that in malay.  kelakar pulak..

zaman skrg parents ada byk choice of english centres  to send their kids to improve their english. but fm my personal experience, if you live in an evironment where everyone speaks english, tak yah pi centre mana2 pun! I don't even remember when i first spoke in english. mcm tiba2 je.. mula2 masuk std 1-3, asyik join budak2 melayu. masuk std 4, kwn2 yg non malays yg berabuk english ni mcm fun je.. so bila join diorg my english improved. Frm std 3 i noticed diorg baca buku enid blyton sampai tak peduli kiri kanan & at that time i was still reading malay books. Bila dah join diorg, baru la started to read enid blyton's, nancy drews.. tapi i tak baca sweet valley twins/high & other romance novels... eiiyuuuu..
hahaha.. from then onwards we became good friends sampai lah From 5.  OUr gang ni multi racial & everywhere we go (until today) ada org tegur ckp dia suka tgk kitorg punya gang.. colourful! heheh

so my point is, use english more in your conversations,.. communications.  Everytime you pick up the phone to order pizza or making inquiries or bookings,.. ask the children to speak english. lama2 confident la diorg.

very true. Mac pun macam tu jugak....

Buncis.... cepatnya nak hantar anak ke Kumon.....

sherrina...... mac pun baca buku2 yg sama macam muslyn. Since you sebut RL Stine (masa mac takde buku ni), my daughter memang dah hooked to this book.... mac ada baca satu buku, nak check la kononnya.... adala jugak boy-girl relationship..... so mac macam tak suka la.... but to think back.... masa mac dulu pun baca sweet valley at that age..... ada gak boy-girl relationship..... mmm.....

it seems that dah jadi mother ni, I tend to be protective of what they are exposed to... padahal.... mac was exposed to the same thing jugak  dulu2..... tapi still mac risau gak ni....

Used to send my kids to Kumon. Tapi bila centre dia pindah jauh sikit which posed some transportation problems, terpaksalah berhenti. Kumon ni dia punya style of teaching fr my observation is based on the concept of 'Practise makes perfect' whereby anak2 akan dibekalkan dgn worksheet for daily work. ie let say your kids' classes are on Monday & Thursday-  masa balik on Monday class nanti u'll be given 2 worksheets (1 utk Tuesday, 1 utk Wed) which must be handed in on the following class, Thursday. Masa balik fr Thursday class pulak, u'll be given 3 worksheets, to be handed in on Monday. Eh, faham ke ni, berbelit2 pulak rasanya. Bottom line is, kalau anak jenis liat sikit, that's when problems might arise. Be prepared to allocate your time to supervise their work ( nak berforum kenalah duduk sebelah diaorang).

Anyway, my kids picked up their English fr watching TV, believe it or not? dari kecik I exposed them to Barney, Gullah2 Island, blue's clues etc.  I even taped these programmes & pagi, ptng mereka nengok. Their vocab increased, & they began to form simple sentences on their own. Bila dah besar sikit, bila tengok cerita omputih tu, senang mereka nak paham. Without realising, we're applying the 'practise makes perfect' concept here!!

hai , saya jarang meninjau kat Board ni tapi hari ni terasa nak join kat sini pulak.

ada yg bertanye pasal Kumon kan, sebab I dah ada experience bolehlah kita share kat sini. I hantar anak2 belajar  KUMON dah 5 tahun skang di cawangan Bangsar Lucky Garden. Selain dari Matematik, I soh dia org ambil English sekali.

Anak2 I start umur dari 3 tahun even anak yg no 2 belum pun 3 tahun dah mula dan kebanyakkan student kat sini ramai yg bermula awal.

2 Years ahead- akan diberi Medal Silver,
3 Years ahead - akan diberi Medal Gold

For English pulak, memang betul kena implementkan dalam kehidupan seharian. Walaupun anak2 I kat International School, tapi I tetap  hantar dia org ambil English kat KUMON sbb  hari2 ada buat latihan dri worksheet yg diberi... Tapi tu lah kenalah sabar sbb anak2 tadi kena betul2  perfect baru dinaikkan level kena yg tak sabar tu yg berhenti separuh jalan....
