I notice that Bill Gates has consistently been made as an example of a successful uni drop-out into biz by motivational books and speakers, where they twisted the fact that he's a mathematician and had been getting no. 1, top of his class from kindergarten until his Harvard time. He has high IQ and he dropped out of uni out of choice and time-constraint managing his biz, not b'coz of low grades. I really despise these kind of low life motivational speakers, making the susceptible young mind influenced by the assumption that we can achieve success in biz even without high edu.
Yes, we can still be successful in biz without high edu, but we r vulnerable to being cheated and twisted by others, not to mention being blinded by our own foolish young ambitions. High edu is important in all aspects. It counts so much there's no denying it. Success is harder without it. Bear it in mind, u young ppl.
What do u guys think about the twisting of facts about Bill Gates by these motivational books and speakers?

Bill started as a poor boy in business albeit having rich family. His passion was computer programming not law. So bye bye Harvard. Never finished college does not mean he is not educated. Today! Hands down he can argues in any subject. Panel member of World Economic Forum which even our PM is not a member. That something eh!
Of course some dubious salesman is using him as sales material...biasa la
Personally I think, going to college for the sake of getting a diploma (sorry I using the American term) is self- defeatism. College eduction teach us thinking skills. The ability to spot a logical howler, cut thru waffle, be relevent, make a point clearly and precisely, and other abilities whatever our walk of life. My only regret I never finished high school. |
