Guilin girls arm-twist tourists into taking photos and paying gratuity

If you are visiting Guilin during this May Day holiday, better watch out for those who make the hard sell. In tourist attractions in Guilin, South China’s Guangxi province, a group of women wearing traditional ethnic dresses stand at the entrance every day and badger male visitors into taking photos with them. Some visitors that cannot ward off the strong arm submit. A tourist had his both arms grabbed by two women, before two more women dashed into the camera. After the photo was clicked, the four women insisted that the tourist pay each one of them 10 yuan (US$1.6). The man refused, and the women immediately hurl all kinds of verbal abuse at him.

Net user “洋朋友”wrote in Baidu’s discussion forum, “There are female robbers in Yinziyan (a tourist attraction in Guilin). When I visited Yinziyan, the moment I arrived in the place, five women dressed in folk costumes grabbed my arms in order to force me to take photos and charge me 50 yuan (US$7.93). I refused. They stepped on my shoes and pulled my sleeves. I couldn’t get rid of them, So I said I had no money. Then they fumbled my pocket forcibly.”

Demanding money by coercion, as in this case, is sort of like robbery. I remember last time when I was at Nanchang’s train station, a deaf-mute person dragged me against my will and requested me to pay 15 yuan for a red braided bracelet as a donation. I gave him 7 yuan without asking for the bracelet, and he was even pissed. Had I known it, I wouldn’t have given him a cent.

A few years ago, I went to Hainan on vacation. There was an ersatz wedding ceremony with local ethnic minorities at the tourist attraction. So I participated. It cost me about 30 yuan. I had some fun. The entire process included throwing the embroidered ball, carrying the bride on the back, and drinking wedlock wine. The only pitiful thing is, the ‘bride’ assigned to me is ugly and fatter than others’. Carrying her made my back ache. Besides, the wine is definitely fake. It tasted terrible, barely alcoholic. Must have been adulterated with water.

Guilin women force male tourists to take photos with them for $2

If you visit Guilin in China, beware of a group of women wearing traditional ethnic costumes who will force you to take a photo with them for $2.

The women would stand at the entrance of Yinziyan, a scenic tourist area, every day and pressure male visitors into taking photos with them.

One tourist had his both arms grabbed by two women.

After the photo was clicked, the women insisted that the tourist pay each one of them 10 yuan (SGD 2).

The man refused, and the women immediately hurl all kinds of verbal abuse at him.

tak bestlah main paksa2 lak ambik gambar......

dulu masa kat Paris, naik boat persiaran tak tahu lak masa nak naik tu dia orang dah ambik gambar......bila dah habis bersiar, naik ke darat terus tunjuk gambar . Ingatkan pree tiba2 katanya kena bayar. Mahu tak mahu bayarlah , sbb gambar tu memang gambar aku sorang je, tak de orang lain, siap nampak boat kat sebelah lagi....
