The bones of a woolly mammoth that roamed the earth at least 10,000 years ago have been discovered in Russia. The well preserved remains were found by locals in the shallows of a north Siberian lake. As well as bones, scientists discovered pieces of skin and soft tissue that had survived in the permafrost. They are still searching the site for more bones.
In recent years, due to the global climate emergency, similar discoveries in Siberia have become more common, as rising temperatures have caused the permafrost in the region to melt. A prehistoric puppy, which is believed to be 18,000 years old, is among the remains to be found in the last few years.
