Clue up on luging
Street luging is an extreme, gravity-powered sport that involves riding a luge board in a supine position (lying face up, feet first) at high speeds of more than 110kph down a paved road or course.
The sport was born in Southern California when downhill skateboarders found they could reach faster speeds by lying down on their skateboards. The first professional race was held in 1975 at Signal Hill, California, but was halted in 1978 due to repeated injuries to both the riders and spectators.

Abdil Adzeem Ahmad Mahdzan (a. k. a. Furlong) made history in March 2008 when he became the first Asian to win an International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) World Cup race.

The 25-year-old lad streaked to victory during the Classic Luge finals, held at the world-famous Mt Panorama motor sports track known as Newton抯 Playground in Bathurst, Australia. Abdil earned his second podium finish when he later came in third in the Street Luge finals.
揑t was my first ever podium finish in an IGSA World Cup event. I was on cloud nine when I raised the Malaysian flag on the podium. It was my proudest moment as I was the first Asian in history to claim a podium finish at an IGSA race.
揟he competition was tough as the 40 participants were professional racers from all over the world but I managed to emerge victorious due to my training and determination.
揑 can finally say that I am one of the fastest street luge racers in the world, |
