Have You Seen This Man?   On Tuesday, the SPCA Selangor received several calls from members of public regarding a man who appeared to be mentally unstable - seen tying up several cats and a puppy near the Mines Complex. SPCA Animal Inspectors immediately contacted the nearest Police Station in Serdang, urging them to send an officer to intervene. By the time the patrol car arrived on the scene 10-15 minutes later, the man had walked off – carrying with him two cats and the puppy in a bag. Two other adult cats were left tied to a concrete post. The animals reportedly were not injured, but had been subjected to a lot of stress as the man had tied them up, talking to them as he held their heads tightly. The policemen released the two cats. The Animal Inspectors followed-up with the police station the same day, and lodged a police report about the incident. The following day, they put up posters (using a picture taken by camera-phone by one of the concerned members of the public) around the vicinity to request that the public keep an eye out for this man, and managed to locate and rescue two of the cats seen in the photos. YB Hannah Yeoh, A Voice For The Voiceless YB Hannah Yeoh, State Assembly representative for MPSJ and Christine Chin, SPCA Selangor Chairperson held a press conference to announce that issues on dog-catchers, their methods of catching stray and owned dogs were debated at a Selangor State Assembly Session last week. Selangor State Exco member, YB Ronnie Liu, promised to do due diligence on dog-catchers currently under contract to ensure taxpayers' money are not wasted. YB Hannah Yeoh championed the strays rights to humane treatment as outlined by the DVS Guidelines on Stray Dog Catching and Euthanasia (May 2008) and urged the Assembly to check on the profile of highlighted dog-catchers that frequently employ cruel methods to catch the dogs. DVS Guidelines state that the animals' welfare must be given priority at all times and the 5 Freedoms must be taken on account (Freedom from hunger and thirst, Freedom from discomfort (from the environment), Freedom from pain, injury and disease, Freedom to express normal behavior, Freedom from fear and distress) The guidelines also highlighted that trained, compassionate and knowledgeable personnel be employed and that only vets can euthanize the strays in a humane manner. Currently untrained personnel destroy the strays very likely in an inhumane manner. It also stated that kennel sizes be adequate and proper records be kept. While YB Hannah and Chin applauded DVS for the Guidelines, successful implementation is equally important. YB Hannah suggested that SPCA has representation in the Pound management, on an advisory and monitoring capacity, to ensure smooth and effective implementation of these humane guidelines. Christine said that SPCA Selangor will advise and assist any Municipal in setting up humane pounds that intend to follow the DVS Guidelines. "This has been the culmination of years of tears and heartbreak. When I first saw how these strays were treated and killed around 5years ago, my heart broke and I cried for days. Sometimes I still cry for them. But crying helps no one and I resolved that SPCA Selangor will take this news to the nation and make a difference in how these strays are treated and how all of us can stop the flow of strays spilling onto the streets from irresponsible owners.  Many years of dealing with DVS and individual Municipals resulted in the publication of the DVS Humane Guidelines largely contributed by SPCA Selangor. DVS Gives Municipal Councils Ultimatum -The Malay Mail 10th March 2009 - THE Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has given three Selangor local councils a month to construct dog pounds in accordance with its guidelines or face being slapped with action for animal cruelty. The order was issued by department director-general Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin in response to a Malay Mail report last Friday which highlighted that Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, Klang Municipal Council and Kajang Municipal Council were allegedly housing captured strays, as well as licenced dogs, in the councils’ vans and trucks as these councils do not possess their own animal pounds. Deeming the councils’ actions as unacceptable, Dr Abd Aziz said his department had given them more than enough time to abide by the guidelines on the housing and extermination of strays. “By the end of next month, if they do not have their own pounds, they will face action for animal cruelty offences,” he told Malay Mail. Jumble Sale: It’s time to clean out your closets!
SPCA Selangor is calling for donations – used clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, books, CDs, toys, furniture, paintings, collectibles, plants, knick-knacks and more. We will be organizing another Jumble Sale on the 26th of July 2009, from 10am – 1pm at the SPCA Animal Shelter in Ampang Jaya to raise funds from the sale of donated second-hand items. You can drop off these donations at the Animal Shelter any day from 9am – 4pm, including weekends and public holidays! We thank you in advance for your generosity, and we hope the next Jumble will be a big one!

kalau nak put up cat for adoption kat spca, camne proses dia ya? how much kena bayar?

kerajaan kita memang tak prihatin pada haiwan....sepatutnya mereka beri bantuan kepada SPCA, tapi pernah ke kita lihat dan terbaca kerajaan bantu haiwan? tengok saja DBKL atau mana mana majlis daerah tangkap anjing dan kucing.....di heretnya begitu saja tanpa belas kasihan.

tp aku dah buat satu kesilapan amat besar dan bodoh dlm hidup aku. dimana aku sangka apabila hantar kucing ke SPCA, kucing tersebut akan dijaga dengan baik. aku jahil, rupanya selepas seminggu jika tak ada sesiapa adopt......maka kucing itu akan ditidurkan selamanya.

aku rasa akulah yg bunuhnya, kenapa aku hantar dia kesana untuk dijatuhkan hukuman? apakah haiwan tidak ada hak tuk hidup dimuka bumi Allah ini? aku faham masalah SPCA yg tiada cukup tempat dan kewangan tapi bukankan SPCA sepatutnya melindungi haiwan? apakah hak mereka untuk membunuh haiwan atas alasan tidak cukup tempat dan kewangan. sebagai manusia diberi akal, bukankah tanggungjawap mereka untuk menyediakan semua itu atas motto " melindungi dan mengasihi"

aku hantar pun bukan free....kena bayar. dan rasanya duit yg bayar itu umpama upah dan kos tuk membunuh anak kucing yang aku hantar tu. kalau aku tahu awal awal...aku lebih rela hantar kat pasar...sekurang dia diberi peluang untuk fight for survival.

sampai hari ini aku masih dapat bayangkan wajah anak kucing itu, bagaimana dia meow meow dan gesel gesel padaku.......dan disaat aku serahkan pada SPCA..dia masih lagi manja dgn mengeselkan badannya pada aku. aku tetap bersalah..!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPCA........amend laa undang undang itu......hentikan pembunuhan.....walaupun kamu gunakan istilah lebih sopan "tidurkan"

Melainkan kes kes haiwan yg sakit teruk yg tak mampu disembuhkan, melainkan kes kes haiwan yg menderita sepanjang jayatnya.....then only is right to put them to sleep.

aku tak akan menderma pada SPCA atas alasan subahat dgn pembunuhan haiwan sehinggalah mereka menukar akta tersebut.

banyak lagi kisah menyayat hati mengenai kucing....insyallah ada masa dan izin Allah, akan aku ceritakan.

Err.... Apa plak kene mengena hantar SPCA dengan pegi vet?
SPCA ialah pusat lindungan haiwan bila orang buang2 haiwan.
Vet ialah tempat hantar haiwan bila sakit.
SPCA cuma put to sleep kalau haiwan tu sakit atau dah takde ruang untuk haiwan tu di sana.
Sebab tu kami di sini sangat2 galakkan neutering untuk elakkan haiwan2 ni dibuang merata dan di put to sleep...

Ramai rescuers hantar kucing dorang untuk neuter ke Klinik Kembiri SPCA di DBKL, Setapak. Rate sangat murah berbanding dengan vet swasta. Harga RM60 untuk betina dan RM50 untuk jantan kalau tak silap saya. Cuba neuter sekor dua dulu. Kucing2 you akan jadi sihat walafiat nanti dan yang paling bagus bilangan dorang takkan bertambah lagi dah...

Kalau kucing jantan, lepas abis jer ubat bius tu dorang dah ok bole melompat2.
Kalau betina perlu kurungkan dalam sangkar paling kejap 2-3 hari supaya kering luka.
