Clay, NY – Seet-Weng Ng delivered his final project Tuesday afternoon, capping the young Malaysia native’s seven-month internship at Carrier Corp. He was planning to head home for the holidays, Carrier spokesman Jonathan Shaw said.
Hours later, Ng died following a car accident in Clay. Now, Carrier officials are working with Malaysian authorities to quickly bring his parents to Syracuse, Shaw said.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office this morning identified Ng, 20, as the man who died after an accident shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at Caughdenoy and Maple roads.
According to deputies, the 1998 Toyota Ng was driving failed to stop at the intersection and was struck on the side by a commercial van being driven by Scott Jaworski, 46, of Clay. Jaworksi has not been ticketed, officials said.
Ng sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Obviously we are all shocked and deeply saddened,” Shaw said.
Members of the engineering group in which Ng worked described him as talented, enthusiastic, energetic and a valuable contributor who appeared to have a bright future, he said.
Ng was a junior at Iowa State University, where he studied mechanical engineering, according to the university’s website. He made the dean’s list during the spring 2011 semester.
He lived at 449 Lillian Ave., Apt. 1A, Syracuse, during his time in Central New York, the sheriff’s office said. |
