Jason Charles Bourne, antihero ciptaan Robert Ludlum yang merupakan jawapan kepada James Bond versi US. Berbeza dengan James Bond yang bermain dengan dunia imaginasi maskulaniti dan perjuangan idealis (fighting badguys to save the world), Jason Bourne mempunyai pendekatan lebih realistik dan perjuangannya bersifat peribadi.

Tidak banyak yang diketahui mengenai latar belakangnya. Berdasarkan kupasan adaptasifilem dan novel, Jason Charles Bourne berumur lingkungan 30an ketika siri Bourne Identity. Jika di dalam filem, dia merupakan bekas US Navy yang menawarkan dirinya pada Project Treadstone, Robert Ludlum menggambarkan "Jason Bourne" hanya sebagai seorang pegawai diplomatik.

Berlatarbelakangkan perang Vietnam, "Jason Bourne" atau nama sebenarnya, David Webb adalah seorang pegawai diplomatik US yang ditugaskan di Kedutaan Amerika Phnom Penh, Cambodia. David mempunyai seorang isteri bangsa Thai bernama Dao dan dua anak, Joshua dan Alyssa.

Kehidupan yang tenang dan bahagia berubah apabila isteri dan anak-anaknya terbunuh apabila sebuahjet pejuang tersilap mengebom kawasan sungai Mekong. David yang putus harapan, berpindah ke Saigon dan disitu dia berjumpa dengan mentornya, Alex Conklin. Di bawah mentoran Alex, David direkrut memasuki sebuah unit elit rahsia bernama Medusa dan diberi nama kod, Delta One. Bermulalah kehidupan barunya sebagai Government-Issued Professional Assasin.

Medusa merupakan death squad yang dipertanggungjawabkan menyelinap masuk kem-kem tentera Vietnam Utara (Viet Cong) dan membunuh orang-orang penting dalam Viet Cong. Unit ini dianggotai oleh penjenayah-penjenayah yang dibentuk untuk menjadi killing machine. Setiap ahli Medusa tidak mempunyai hak ke atas nyawa mereka sendiri dan misi-misi yang dijalankan adalah berbentuk suicide mission. Delta One menjadi rapat dengan salah seorang ahli Medusa dan apabila terbongkar rahsia bahawa kawan rapatnya itu merupakan double agent untuk Viet Cong, Delta One membunuhnya tanpa sebarang perasaan. Untuk mengelakkan tentera Viet Cong mengetahui bahawa agen mereka telah dibunuh, pihak atasan mengarahkan Delta One menyamar sebagai kawannya. Mulai hari itu Delta One menggunakan identiti baru iaitu Jason Charles Bourne.

Beberapa tahun selepas itu, CIA mewujudkan satu divisyen baru khas untuk memburu terrorist nombor satu dalam senarai mereka, Carlos The Jackal. Divisyen baru ini dikenali sebagai Treadstone 71 dan diketuai oleh David Abbott. Bourne dipanggil untuk menyertai projek baru ini. Siri dalam novel dan filem bermula apabila Bourne "gagal" melaksanakan tugasnya.

okay ne pendapat ak,pasal mamat killer machine yang "blurr" ni..kalu dibandingkan buku dengan pelemnya, ceter pelem nya lencong abis jauh dari plot dalam buku...okay meh ak beri contoh...err da abis bacha blom ke semua buku karangan Robert Ludlum..errblom kan..ta pa ta pa..
okay di akhir buku pertama (Identity) Jason tau sapa nama aslinya dan bahwa family nya (anak dan istrinya) meninggal di Thailand. Tapi di pelem tadak diceritakan . . perbedaan yg lainnya adalah " Marie", di buku Marie tidak meninggal dan malah menjadi istri Jason. Tapi di pelem …, "marie" kiok…dimana "marie" matil di pelem ke-2 (Supremacy).

  
Yang menarik dalam pelem "The Bourne" adalah adegan fighting... tak macam mat  bond atau ethan.  Kalo time Bond figthing pakai gadget ,tapiiii... Jason perghhh apa aja bisa dongggg jadi weapon. cth dlm pelem "Identity" dia cuma make pena untuk fighting, di "Supremacy" dia menggunakan magazine yang dilipatlipatnya, sedangkan di Ultimatum dia hanya melawan dengan tangan kosong untok merampas senjata lawannya. mmm apa lagikk yg pasti..tadak awek bourne ..mcma awek bond. Yng ada Cuma Marie yang jugak ....pe lagikkk entah laa tuu jerr yg ak terlintas dlm kpala otak ak...so sapa sapa ada info bley kongsi lagikk...

i love jason bourne the moment i read ludlum's novel and  i have to say Ludlum was really good , brilliant author when he created this character Jason Bourne aka Dr David Webb.


This guy uses his brain rather than his muscles and charms.

His action - never random - as Nicky put it.


Robert Ludlums was one of the SEAL member himself which tells you that he knows a lot about the world of espionage.
