Sebelum ni saya cakap dalam BM je.
Tapi sekarang saya dah mula speaking dengan anak-anak dalam perjalanan pergi dan balik dari sekolah.
Walaupun cara ni slow sikit. Tapi rasanya okay jugak. Makin hari makin pandai. |

saya pun praktikkan style father speaks BM and Mother speaks English...fully immerse them and try to speak with good english (grammar and syntax) so the children will follow suit.
i observed that some parents speak english but not with proper grammar..eg: lets go school! lets go sleep!
boy come we go pee pee....urghhhh
kesian anak2 tu nanti dapat training in bad english..
just my opinion |

I agree and understand what Genkidesuda is trying to convey. Itu pun cara saya dgn anak2. Saya jenis di tpt kerja mmg converse mostly in english walaupun environment saya bnyk melayu. Even org hantar email in malay pun saya akn jwb in english. Tapi di rumah mmg we are a malay medium conversationalists. With a tinge of english words here and there (except when mommy turns into a fire breathing dragon then she is an english whore - pardon my language).
I mmg admire kids who can speak fluent english especially those with accent. My kids are not. But I'm not worried. They can speak in good english when the need arise. Biarlah grammar and syntax tunggang langgang but my aim is to get them to be confident and comfortable first. Once they are confident, they will improve. And movies, online games an youtube are also good tutor. Tapi kena monitor lah. My eldest who are now into MMOG counter strike dok sibuk communicate dgn players lain from other parts of the world. OK jer tak ada masalah. at 12, he seems to have master simple english language sufficient for his age. And my 3rd who is in malay islamic base kindy pun akan tanya soalan2 macam "tv tu apa dalam bahasa english mummy?" " car tu apa dalam english mummy?" "english cakap itik tu apa mummy?" " sleep tu apa dlm bahasa inggeris mummy?" baju tu cakap inggeris apa mummy?" etc... kadang2 in the loudest voice he can manage. Even in public. Saya layankan ajer. Janji ada minat nak belajar and improve. Itu yg penting.
My solution? read read read read. And if you think your child has had enough, get him/her to be interested to read some more. My 9 y.o daughter every day mintak belikan buku. Everyday! Mula2 dulu mmg buku cerita melayu jadi pilihan hati tapi lately i noticed dia mula pilih english story books. For her to be interested and have her own initiative to improve is good enough for me. My 8 months old baby? I talk to him in both english n malay. Dalam kereta dok sibuk kira tiang lampu sekarang - one lampu, two lampu, three lampu, four lampu, five lampu... lompat2 nganga2 tunjuk gusi bila tengah kira mcm tu.

Anak I bru 6 bulan tp I mmg start bercakap cakap dgn dia in English walaupun dia takleh nk bercakap lg. Hihi. Tp I mmg nk biasakan dia dgn English. Sblum baby I lahir, I dah bincang dgn husband yg kami akan praktikkan bilingual pd anak kami. Which I ckp English ngan anak while husband ckp Malay ngan anak. So anak2 akan faham dua bahasa ni. And I plan nnt dah tadika nk hantar anak I ke sekolah cina.
