KUALA LUMPUR, June 22, 2015:“Because it sounds beautiful!.”
That was the response from a French music band which had ironically named itself after one of the most affluent townships in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The Facebook account of the French band which named itself Mutiara Damansara – has caught the attention of local Facebook users.
The locals who were both amused and surprised, started to inquire on how the band, consisting of three members, managed to come up with the name. “Hey.. how did you guys come out with the name ‘Mutiara Damansara’?,” commented one Facebook user Izuddin Khan.
In addition, Izuddin also uploaded on the band’s Facebook post, the famous welcome sign of Mutiara Damansara where IKEA, The Curve and many other shopping malls are located.
There were also a few other Facebook users who were rather curious. They asked the band members on how they pronounced it in French and Malay as well. “I wonder how do you guys pronounce Mutiara Damansara with a French accent?,” asked another Facebook user Hafiz Zainal.
In response, one of the French band members posted:
“We do our best to pronounce it well, but I can only imagine we butcher Malay each time we are saying it.”
Another Facebook user, Tan Suet Wei, upon knowing the existence of the band, urged its members to come to Malaysia and perform at Mutiara Damansara. “Guys, you need to play in Mutiara Damansara,” commented Tan.
According to their official Facebook account, the band which plays Dream Pop, Black Metal and Post-Rock music genres, consist of three members, Charlize, Sven and Ulysse.
Based in Caen, France, the band on its website has produced three albums since 2010.
