Clijsters stuns S.Williams in US Open semifinals
NEW YORK -- Kim Clijsters has upset Serena Williams in a U.S. Open semifinal thatended when the defending champion was docked a point for yelling at anofficial who called a foot fault.
The unseeded, unranked Clijsters reached the final by beating No. 2 Williams 6-4, 7-5 Saturday night.
WithWilliams serving at 5-6, 15-30 in the second set, she faulted on herfirst serve. On the second, the line judge called a foot fault, makingit a double-fault. That made the score 15-40, giving Clijsters a matchpoint. Williams went over and said something to the line judge, whoreported it to the chair umpire. That led to the chair umpire awardinga point to Clijsters, ending the match.
Williams already had been given a code violation warning when she broke her racket after losing the first set.

Serena Williams berates official, loses match for conduct violation
Rain gave way to bedlam tonight at the U.S. Open.
Defending champion Serena Williams was charged with a point penalty on match pointafter yelling at a line judge for a calling a foot fault on her previous serve. The ruling gave Kim Clijsters a 6-4, 7-5 victory in their semifinal match, which had been delayed 32 hours because of rain.
Afterthe line judge called the foot fault with Serena serving at 5-6, 15-30in the second set, the youngest Williams sister intimidatingly staredher down before screaming at the official with a jabbed finger.After a few seconds, Serena turned back around to serve, thought betterof it and resumed the badgering. The chair umpire then called over theline judge to ask what Serena had said, rules officials were summoned,a brief summit occurred at the net and it was determined that Serenawould be assessed a point penalty for a conduct violation. The pointgave Clijsters the match.
The initial foot fault that beganthe fireworks was a terrible call. It was unconscionable. It cannot bemade at the end of any match, let alone in the semifinals of the U.S.Open. This isn't because a foot fault is a ridiculous call at thatjuncture (even though it is). It's because it wasn't a foot fault.The replays show that Serena's foot was behind the line when sheserved. You could make the argument that it was close but not closeenough to make the call.
That being said, it's no excuse forSerena to berate an official. Wrong as the official may have been,there's a line that to be crossed and Serena did it pretty early on inher diatribe by saying, "I'm going to shove this ball down your f------throat".
It got worse from there. There were multipleprofanities, more threats and a lot of pointing. Serena was soondefending herself against accusations that she had threatened to killthe lines judge. Even John McEnroe said it was a bit much.
Theexplosive end is sure to obscure the fact that Serena probably wouldhave lost the match without the foot fault. Clijsters was playing greatand Serena couldn't win a point on her second serve. The end wascoming, Serena's outburst merely hastened its arrival. Maybe that wasthe point. |

Seriously, OK jugak Nadal sudah naik ranking no.2 semula, dan jugak USO kali ni, dia maintain last year punya result. Injury kat perut tu sebab lama tak main tennis pro-level, bila aktif balik tu jadi camtu. Lutut dah OK, perut la pulak. Takpe, ambik masa sket. Tetap sokong Nadal.
Harap2 pasni Nadal & team Nadal, semua jaga2 sket pilih tournament, takyah sebat semua clay title yg ada, jaga fitness & focus pada Slams saja.
Serena? Shocking! Tapi selamba abis dia kat presser. Line umpire pulak terlebih gigih buat kerja, abis suasana... spoiled... Kim boleh je dapatkan match point sendiri, takyahla nak kasi2 foot fault ke apa... Yang kesian ialah Kim sebab tak dapat celebrate kemenangan dia... Nadal main OK, Gonzo main byk error... tiebreaker dia je 3 ketul point dia kasi free kat Nadal. Maybe tension & hilang focus sbb aritu masa dia nak serve tiebreaker set ke2 untuk kejar Nadal, ujan turun, pastu kena tunggu lama nak sambung...
Pastu masuk set ke3, dia still takleh focus, siap ada medical timeout, bandage kaki macam simen, besar & tebal...
Anyway, kalau Gonzo menang pun, dia tak lepas jugak dengan Delpo, Delpo dah rest cukup. Itulah dia USO (unfair scheduling open). Dlm kes Nadal, tambah lagi satu, UNRELIABLE SECURITY OPEN |
