Rashid to take action against back-up shuttlers who flopped in ABC

KUALA LUMPUR: Two immediate actions will be taken against the national elite back-up shuttlers following their wishy-washy performances in the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC), which ended in Suwon, South Korea, yesterday.
National chief coach Rashid Sidek will cut down on the number of international tournaments for the four second liners ?Tan Chun Seang, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren. He also wants to make it compulsory for them to attend a weekly motivation class.
Rashid said that his frustration was at its height following the elimination of all the four players in the first round of the ABC.
揑 would not have been this upset if they had given fighting shows in the ABC. Their level of commitment in a tournament is like a yo yo,?he said.
揑 push them hard in training. I give them moral support. But they do not walk their talk. They say a lot of things, about their goals and targets, but they are unable to achieve them.?
Rashid added that he would be selective of his players for international competitions, especially for four consecutive tournaments in June ?the Philippines Open (June 2-7), Singapore Open (June 9-14), Indonesia Open (June 16-21), Malaysia Gold Grand Prix (June 23-28).
揟hey can forget about going for all these tournaments in June. I will discuss with the management and they will only be selected for one or two tournaments,?said Rashid.
揑t is no longer about exposure for this group of players. They have to go out and win titles or live up to certain expectations. If they cannot meet this, it is best that they leave the team.?
For now, only Chun Seang has been named as a reserve for the Sudirman Cup world mixed team championships in Guangzhou from May 10-17.
Chun Seang was picked for scoring upset wins over seeded players Nguyen Tine Minh of Vietnam and India抯 Anup Sridhar en route to a quarter-final appearance in the recent India Open.
Rashid said that he hoped that weekly motivation talk would also change the mind set of the under-performing players.
揥hether they like it or not, they have to attend the talk. I will make arrangements with the NSI (National Sports Institute) to instil confidence in them,?he said.
揑 am pleased with their physical condition and in fact, I am not too worried about their skills. But what is lacking is their self-confidence.
揑 have faith in these players and hopefully, they will be able to stand out in future tournaments.?

Chong Wei hopes national team can get good draw in Sudirman Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has several tasks to accomplish in Guangzhou in the next one month. And he plans to make them all a success.
He will leave for Guangzhou next week to be part of the draw ceremony for the Sudirman Cup world mixed team championship, which will be held on April 25.
And he is keeping his fingers crossed that Malaysia get a favourable draw for the championship, which will be held in the same city from May 10-17.
揟he BWF (Badminton World Federation) have invited me to attend the ceremony. This is an honour for me. I will be there for three days and this job will probably be the easiest one for me, |

PEMAIN badminton perseorangan negara, Kuan Beng Hong mengakui, dia telah cuba untuk memberikan aksi terbaik pada beberapa kejohanan yang disertainya sebelum ini.
Menurut Beng Hong, meskipun gagal untuk memenangi sebarang kejohanan, dia telah menunjukkan peningkatan pada Terbuka India bulan lepas serta Kejohanan Badminton Asia di Korea Selatan, minggu lalu.
Disebabkan itu jugalah, Beng Hong meletakkan harapan yang tinggi agar Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM) terus memberi peluang kepadanya membuktikan keupayaan dengan mengekalkannya dalam skuad elit negara.
Terdahulu, BAM memberi peluang terakhir kepada Beng Hong serta seorang lagi pemain negara, Muhammad Hafiz Hashim memperbaiki prestasi pada kejohanan ABC atau berdepan risiko disingkirkan daripada skuad kebangsaan.
"Pada Seluruh England dan Terbuka Switzerland, saya terkandas pada pusingan kelayakan tetapi saya berjaya bangkit pada Terbuka India apabila mara hingga ke pusingan suku akhir," kata Beng Hong.
"Saya tewas kepada Taufik Hidayat dalam permainan rubber set dan itu merupa- kan kali pertama saya berjaya mengasak pemain Indonesia itu hingga ke set penen- tuan.
"Pada kejohanan ABC pula, saya tewas kepada pemain handalan China, Bao Chun- lai pada pusingan ketiga juga dengan rubber set.
"Jurulatih Rashid Sidek juga mengakui saya telah menunjukkan peningkatan selepas pulang daripada kejohanan di Eropah.
"Saya harap BAM akan menilai prestasi saya pada kedua-dua kejohanan ini dan memberi peluang untuk saya terus kekal dalam skuad kebangsaan.
"Saya masih mempunyai semangat dan keinginan untuk terus memperbaiki diri dan meraih kejayaan."
Begitupun Beng Hong menegaskan, dia akan tetap meneruskan kariernya dalam sukan badminton meskipun jika BAM membuat keputusan untuk menyingkirkannya.
Menurut pemain berusia 26 tahun itu, dia yakin masih mampu untuk meneruskan perjuangan dan memberi saingan sengit kepada lawan.
"Saya sebenarnya yakin akan terus kekal bersama BAM," tambah Beng Hong.
"Saya tidak pernah anggap kejohanan ABC sebagai kejohanan terakhir saya. Jika BAM membuat keputusan untuk menggugurkan saya daripada skuad kebangsaan, itu tidak bermakna saya akan terus menggantung raket.
"Saya akan tetap meneruskan karier saya dalam sukan badminton."
Dalam pada itu, Beng Hong mengakui dia tidak meletakkan harapan yang tinggi untuk tersenarai dalam skuad Piala Sudirman yang akan diadakan di Guangzhou, China bulan depan. |

ranking terbaru...bila Lin Dan duduk no 3....agak bahaya untuk chong wei....ada kemungkinan lin dan akan bertemu dengan chong wei di semi final lagi....selalunya lin dan akan jumpa chong wei di final...
sorang lagi yg perlu diberi perhatian ialah bao chun lai yg lama menyepi mungkin kerana kecerderaan...mungkin bao chun lain akan bertemu chong wei di pusingan awal lagi....
juga perlu diberi perhatian, Chen Jin yang pernah menewaskan chong wei di kejohanan all england tahun lepas
