China has deployed 10 satellites to help in the massive air and sea search for a missing Malaysian airliner, the People's Liberation Army Daily said on Tuesday.

The satellites will use high-resolution earth imaging capabilities, visible light imaging and other technologies to "support and assist in the search and rescue operations for the Malaysian Airlines aircraft", the newspaper said in an article that was also carried on the defence ministry's website.

Dozens of ships and aircraft from 10 countries scoured the seas around Malaysia and south of Vietnam as questions mounted over possible security lapses and whether a bomb or hijacking attempt could have brought down the Boeing 777-200ER which took off from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

China has urged Malaysia to speed up the search for the plane. About two-thirds of the 227 passengers and 12 crew now presumed to have died aboard the plane were Chinese.

The Chinese satellites will also help in weather monitoring, communication and search operations in the area where the plane disappeared, the newspaper said.

China will also strengthen the Beidou navigation system's satellite monitoring capabilities to "provide reliable navigation for the rescue operations and communication support".

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — It is “impossible” for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to have escaped all radar detection in the area where it was travelling, unless it entered remote territories, an aviation analyst has said, as the mysterious disappearance of the large aircraft continues to baffle experts around the world.

Frost and Sullivan Asia Pacific aerospace and defence consultant Ravi Madavaram listed areas like Alaska or the Atlantic Ocean as among the few remote areas where airships could possibly fall off the radar, but stressed that it would only be for “brief moments”.
“With so many borders and countries around the sea, it is impossible to skip all the radars,” he told The Malay Mail Online in an email interview.

The search for MH370 entered is fourth day today after more than 80 hours since the large aircraft carrying 239 people mysteriously vanished from sight at 1.30am on Saturday morning.
Experts and investigators have been thrown off by how the numbers have not added up over MH370’s disappearance, and despite intensive search efforts, the aircraft has remained missing, leaving behind not a shred of evidence.
The Boeing B777-200 aircraft was hovering somewhere 120 nautical miles off the coast of Kota Baru when it was last seen on radar.

A large battalion of military aircraft and sea vessels from at least nine nations have been circling the areas where MH370 was last seen — covering a wider expanse of 100 nautical miles today in the waters of the South China Sea, the Straits of Malaccca and Penang — but still, to no avail.
Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, in hours after the aircraft went missing on Saturday, has said none of the control rooms in neighbouring countries found the jetliner on their radar.
Azharuddin said that the controllers had crossed checked with counterparts in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam before informing MAS of its missing flight.

With no sign of the aircraft on radar, experts are now toying with the possibility of a mid-air explosion or a major malfunction onboard the aircraft, caused by electrical or technical failures.
But Ravi discounted the likelihood of a total power cut onboard, saying that while it could be possible, it is very rare and has never happened before.
He pointed out that Boeing aircrafts are supported by three electrical power sources — two generators, one in each engine, an auxiliary power unit (APU) and a ram air turbine (RAT).
“For the aircraft to have total electrical failure, all three systems should have failed at the same time.
“This is pretty rare and has not happened,” said Ravi.

Asked if an electrical failure would affect distress signals, the expert pointed out that such malfunctions are typically reported by pilots to the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
At the time of the incident, however, the Subang ATC had not received any distress signals, even though military radar had detected the possibility that the aircraft might have made a turnaround in mid-flight.
“Total electrical failure all of sudden is remotely possible but with redundancy in the current aircraft’s, can be ruled out,” Ravi insisted.

The sudden disappearance of MH370 from radar in the early hours of March 8 and without any distress signal sent has continued to fuel widespread speculation on what happened inside the plane to cause it to disappear from sight.
Malaysian authorities say they cannot rule out terrorism as a cause for the airliner’s disappearance, especially after two passengers were found to have used stolen identities to board the aircraft.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft left Kuala Lumpur and was about 40 minutes into its journey to Beijing when it vanished from the skies with 239 people on board.

KUALA LUMPUR: There are two major aspects of the sea condition that are taken into consideration in the search and recovery mission of the missing Boeing 777- MH370 aircraft.

An oceanographer from the Institute of Oceanography (INOS), Dr Mohd Fadzil Mohd Akhir said the two aspects include wave position and current circulation.

Fadzil, who is also a lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, said the current location of the search which is in between the Straits of Malacca and the Thailand Gulf, holds rough sea condition and strong wave.

Another aspect would be the current circulation in this area. Should the plane crash into the sea, the fleet may drift according to the current circulation.

During this time of the year, the North-East monsoon current flows south from Vietnam towards Malaysian waters at a slow pace.  And should the fleet float it can be drifted up to 15 knots per 24 hours. However, considering the possibility of the fleet sinking, it will remain at the bottom of the sea.
Fadzil added that the bright sunlight beaming on the surface of the sea can also cause sun reflection that can be disturbing to the sights of the search team.

The depth of the South China Sea is about 100 metres and the drifting of any objects would be minimal.

Fadzil also said, from an oceanographer's point of view, sonar is the best option for the search and rescue mission as it can scan through the ocean and provide details of the shape of the sea bed.

This technology is commonly used for scanning shipwreck, reef etc.

Longmont, Colo.-based DigitalGlobe trained cameras from its five orbiting satellites Saturday on the Gulf of Thailand region where Malaysia flight 370 was last heard from, said Luke Barrington, senior manager of Geospatial Big Data for DigitalGlobe.

The images being gathered will be made available for free to the public on a website called Tomnod. Anyone can click on the link and begin searching the images, tagging anything that looks suspicious. Each pixel on a computer screen represents half a meter on the ocean’s surface, Barrington told ABC News.

“For people who aren’t able to drive a boat through the Pacific Ocean to get to the Malaysian peninsula, or who can’t fly airplanes to look there, this is a way that they can contribute and try to help out,” Barrington said.

DigitalGlobe will use a computer algorithm to determine whether users start tagging certain regions more than others. In-house satellite imaging experts will follow up on leads, Barrington said.

“We’ll say, ‘Here are our top ten suspicious or interesting locations,’” Barrington said. “Is it really an aircraft wing that’s been chopped in half or is this some other debris floating on the ocean? We may not be 100 percent sure, but if this is where I had to go pick a location to go looking for needles in this big haystack, this is where I’d start.”

The company runs a fee-based First Look Event Service that can compare before-and-after images for clients. In the past month, the company activated the service to observe wildfires in Australia, violence in Ukraine and the aftermath of ice storms in Atlanta, Ga.

In November, the company launched a similar crowdsourcing campaign after Typhoon Haiyan devastated Southeast Asia. The company says users placed more than 400,000 tags, identifying 38,000 damaged buildings and 101,000 damaged homes.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dua penumpang yang didakwa menggunakan pasport curi menaiki penerbangan MH370 dari KLIA menuju ke Beijing yang hilang pada Sabtu lalu didakwa sebagai warganegara Iran, menurut laporan BBC Persia.

Menurut laporan tersebut, rakan kepada kedua-dua penumpang itu yang juga merupakan warga Iran mendakwa, dia telah membantu mereka sewaktu berada di Kuala Lumpur selepas tiba dari Tehran, beberapa hari sebelum penerbangan mereka ke Beijing.

Menurutnya, kedua-dua lelaki itu membeli pasport curi tersebut kerana mereka mahu berpindah dan menetap di Eropah.

Dalam satu sidang media di KLIA semalam, Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Penerbangan Awam, Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman memberitahu bahawa, kedua-dua penumpang tersebut ‘tidak memiliki wajah Asia”.

Walaubagaimanapun, Azharuddin tidak menyatakan dengan spesifik kewarganegaraan kedua-dua penumpang tersebut.

Sementara itu, satu laporan oleh Financial Times mengatakan bahawa ketika operasi mengesan pesawat itu dipergiatkan, pihak berkuasa juga sedang mengesan seorang warganegara Iran yang didedahkan oleh seorang agen pelancongan di Thailand sebagai individu yang membeli tiket bagi pihak dua penumpang yang menaiki pesawat itu dengan pasport curi.

Krutnait pada awalnya menempah untuk lelaki Iran itu dua tiket ke Eropah pada 1 Mac lalu melalui penerbangan Qatar Airways dan Etihad. Tiket itu kemudiannya terbatal kerana tidak dituntut oleh Ali.

Pada Khamis 6 Mac, Ali menghubungi Krutnait dan agen pelancongan itu untuk menempah tiket Penerbangan Malaysia kerana dikatakan ketika itu tiket paling murah yang ada. Beliau menempah tiket itu melalui China Southern Airlines yang berkongsi kod penerbangan dengan MH370.

NEW DELHI, March 10 (Xinhua) -- India on Monday announced it is ready to offer help to hunt a Malaysian Airlines flight which went missing more than two days ago over the South China Sea.

"I have sent my condolences (to the families of the passengers) and our ambassador (in Beijing) is in touch with them. We are ready to give any help, if required, or share information if we get any," Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told the media.

The Boeing 777-200ER, with 239 people on board including five Indian nationals, vanished on its way to Beijing from Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Saturday morning.

So far, the hunt for the missing plane has yielded no results, despite that dozens ships and aircraft from nine different nations are taking part in the search and rescue operation, according to Malaysian authorities.

Investigators pursued "every angle" to explain its disappearance, including hijacking, Malaysia's civil aviation chief said Monday, as two passengers managed to use stolen passports to board flight MH370.

Flight MH370 was reported to have lost all communications with air traffic control about an hour after taking off at 12.41am from Kuala Lumpur. It was supposed to arrive at 6.30am local time.

Why are there so few clues on MH370?


The investigation of into the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane which went missing more than 80 hours after it vanished from radar screens, will be sure to take many months, if not years.

The author of ‘Understanding Air France 447’, Bill Palmer who is also an Airbus A330 captain for a major airline in the United States, questioned the mysteries behind the disappearance of MH370 since Saturday in his opinion piece on CNN.com on Monday.

In his article, Palmer commented on the reports of a possible course reversal observed on radar which according to him, may or may not be the intention of the crew on board.

Relating the event with the Air France 447 tragedy, Palmer said the investigation may face many parallels to June 2009 incident, when the Airbus A330 crashed in an area beyond radar coverage in the ocean north of Brazil.

He added, during its three and a half minute descent to the Atlantic Ocean, the aircraft was reported to have changed its course by more than 180 degrees.

“It was an unintentional side effect as the crew of Air France 447 struggled to gain control of the airplane. The flight's last telemetry data, as reported by flightaware.com, showed the airplane cruising at 35,000 feet. Even with a dual engine failure, a Boeing 777 is capable of gliding about 120 miles from that altitude,” said Palmer.

Palmer also raised the question on the lack of distress call made by the flight crew which he described as ‘particularly perplexing’.

“An aviator's priorities are to maintain control of the airplane above all else. An emergency could easily consume 100 percent of a crew's efforts. To an airline pilot, the absence of radio calls to personnel on the ground that could do little to help the immediate situation is no surprise.

The Air France flight's string of events was precipitated by onboard faults that were automatically transmitted to the airline's headquarters during its final minutes. While they lacked any flight parameters, these maintenance fault messages gave key clues, though not a definitive cause of the accident, before any wreckage was found,” Palmer added.

In this case, the recovery of MH370’s flight data and cockpit voice recorders would be important in determining the cause of the disappearance.

He added that flight data recorders contain data from more than 1,000 aircraft parameters, including altitude, vertical speed, airspeed, heading, control positions and parameters of the engines and most of the aircraft's onboard systems, captured several times per second.

“The cockpit voice recorder archives the last hours of not just cockpit voices and sounds but also all radio and onboard inter-airplane communications,” he said, adding that detailed history of the flight crew and the airplane will be closely reviewed by expert investigators as well who was travelling on the two reportedly stolen passports.

Palmer said, the truth will come out once the wreckage is found where the debris and its distribution will tell investigators if the airplane was intact upon impact and the angle at which it hit.

“Metallurgical and chemical analysis of the parts will determine the stresses and angles that caused the parts to fail, and if explosives were present. These findings of fact will drive the creation of theories by investigators about what caused the loss of the airplane and its passengers,” he added.

According to him, the wreckage of the Air France flight was located in April 2011, and its flight recorders recovered and analyzed in May. The cause of the crash was the crew's loss of control of the airplane after the speed sensor probes became clogged while flying through a storm in the tropics. It caused the loss of reliable airspeed indications, the autopilot to disconnect and the flight controls to degrade.

“In the case of the Air France plane, it was five days of intensive searching before the first floating wreckage was found. It took nearly two years to locate the remains of the aircraft on the ocean floor 12,000 feet below, broken into thousands of pieces by the impact with the water.

“In contrast, the Gulf of Thailand has a maximum depth of only 260 feet, with the average being about 150 feet. If the aircraft is in the water, it should make recovery easier.

“We will know the truth of what happened when the aircraft is found and the recorders and wreckage is analyzed. In the meantime, speculation is often inaccurate and unproductive,” he concluded.

Hari 4: Mencari MH370, mengesan "Encik Ali"
KUALA LUMPUR: Usaha mengesan pesawat MH370 yang hilang sejak lebih 80 jam lalu diteruskan hari ini dengan operasi digerakkan di kawasan yang lebih luas meliputi 100 batu nautika daripada titik terakhir pesawat itu dikesan pada awal pagi Sabtu lalu.

Kawasan itu meliputi perairan di sebelah barat dan timur Semenanjung Malaysia mencecah sampai ke Vietnam dan utara Sumatera. Operasi disertai oleh 22 buah pesawat udara dan 44 buah kapal dari lapan buah negara.

Bagi memudahkan operasi, kawasan berkenaan dibahagikan kepada beberapa petak dan setiap kapal laut serta pesawat yang menyertai usaha tersebut masing-masing ditugaskan meneroka setiap petak itu.

Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Penerbangan Awam, Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman dalam sidang media pada Isnin malam menegaskan usaha itu akan dipergiatkan kerana adalah mustahak untuk mengesan pesawat berkenaan untuk memahami apa yang sebenarnya berlaku.

"Usaha ini masih lagi sebuah operasi mencari dan menyelamat dan bukannya operasi pemulihan bencana," katanya.

Pada sidang media sebelumnya pada tengahari Isnin, Azharuddin menyifatkan kehilangan pesawat yang dalam penerbangan dari Kuala Lumpur ke Beijing itu sebagai "misteri kehilangan pesawat yang belum pernah berlaku sebelum ini."

Kedua-dua penumpang misteri itu ditempah untuk penerbangan Kuala Lumpur ke Beijing sebelum meneruskan penerbangan ke Amsterdam sebelum masing-masing ke Frankfurt dan Copenhagen.

pergerakan dua penumpang misteri itu menunjukkan semua protokol keselamatan di KLIA telah dipatuhi.

Oleh itu, siasatan pihak berkuasa berhubung dua pasport curi yang digunakan untuk menaiki pesawat MH370 itu kini bertumpu kepada aspek penglibatan sindiket pemalsuan pasport.

Beliau juga mengesahkan, selepas meneliti rakaman dan foto, dua penumpang berkenaan bukan lelaki Asia.

Pada malam kejadian, Panglima Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia Rodzali, mengesahkan pangkalan udara di Butterworth, mengesan isyarat kedudukan pesawat berkenaan yang berpatah balik menghala ke laluan asalnya ke Kota Bharu, Kelantan, sebelum dipercayai melalui ruang udara Pantai Timur dan Utara tanah air.

“Kali terakhir pesawat itu dikesan berada berhampiran Pulau Perak, di perairan Selat Melaka, pada jam 2.40 pagi oleh menara kawalan udara berhampiran sebelum isyarat hilang tanpa sebarang petunjuk,” katanya.

Pesawat yang membawa 227 penumpang dan 12 kru itu kemudian dilaporkan memasuki ruang udara Selat Melaka sebelum isyaratnya kali terakhir dikesan ketika berada berhampiran Pulau Perak, yang masih dalam perairan negara.
Kemungkinan itu disokong dengan laporan polis oleh beberapa penduduk yang mendakwa melihat kelibat cahaya lampu besar dan pesawat terbang rendah, dengan anggaran ketinggian 1,000 meter dari paras laut di Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Kuala Lumpur: Interpol mengesahkan pihaknya mempunyai data dua pasport milik warga Austria dan Itali yang dilaporkan dicuri sebelum dokumen itu digunakan dua penumpang ‘hantu’ dalam penerbangan MAS MH370 yang hilang selepas pesawat berkenaan terputus hubungan dengan menara kawalan jam 2.40 pagi, Sabtu lalu.

Memetik kenyataan yang dikeluarkan laman web Interpol, data dua pasport berkenaan disimpan di dalam Pangkalan Data Dokumen Perjalanan Hilang (SLTD) Interpol.

Interpol memberitahu, semakan melalui SLTD mendapati dua pasport milik warga Austria dan Itali itu dilaporkan dicuri di Thailand pada 2012 dan 2013.

Kenyataan itu berkata, Interpol kini sedang giat menjalankan pemeriksaan ke atas semua pasport penumpang yang menaiki penerbangan MH370 kerana terdapat kemungkinan pasport lain juga dilaporkan dicuri.

PESAWAT tentera udara Amerika Syarikat MH-60R Sea Hawk mendarat di Kapal Destroyer USS Pinck Ney (DDG-91) selepas membuat rondaan mengesan pesawat penerbangan MH370 di Teluk Siam, semalam.

“Interpol kini sedang berhubung dengan Biro Pusat Kebangsaan negara masing-masing (Austria dan Itali) yang bagi mengenal pasti identiti sebenar penumpang yang menggunakan pasport curi berkenaan ketika menaiki pesawat MH370,” menurut kenyataan itu.

Setiausaha Agung Interpol Ronald K Noble berkata, masih terlalu awal untuk membuat spekulasi mengenai kaitan antara pasport curi dan misteri kehilangan pesawat berkenaan, bagaimanapun ia sesuatu yang membimbangkan jika ada antara penumpang menaiki penerbangan antarabangsa menggunakan pasport curi.

Sumber memberitahu Harian Metro, Interpol kini turut menyemak semua pasport penumpang dan mengakses sistem Imigresen Malaysia berkaitan pasport kerana dikhuatiri terdapat individu lain menggunakan pasport curi.

Dalam perkembangan membabitkan kes curi identiti dua individu yang menaiki pesawat MH370, sumber berkata, pasukan keselamatan Malaysia yang dibantu Biro Penyiasatan Persekutuan (FBI) kini sedang menyiasat sindiket mencuri dan menjual pasport yang dipercayai beroperasi dan berpangkalan di Thailand.

“Sindiket yang beroperasi di Thailand itu dilapor menyasarkan warga asing seperti pelancong sebelum mencuri pasport milik mereka. Ia (mencuri) dilakukan sama ada kaedah samun ataupun seluk saku.
