Review filem jin notti....... uhuk
Watch this if you liked: "Cicak-Man 2"
It seems too easy for a movie critic to rubbish "Jin Notti" as empty entertainment but sometimes facts have to be faced. KRU Studios' best foot forward combines the directorial debut of young Azhari Mohd Zain with the popularity of Mawi and Fara Fauzana as leads. Sadly, it's a case of "Cicak-Man 2" all over again as the movie is glossy and costly but far from being a respectable piece of work.
The top billing of radio personality Fara Fauzana in this movie through five roles (Notti, Ruby, Yvonne, Sharifah Qistina and Mimi) seems justified as she doesn't disappoint, despite being a newbie on the movie scene. It isn't easy to play one role, what more five. However Malaysian's hottest talent property Mawi as Inspector Ajiz is soulless and dour. A nightclub fight scene exposes his 'trying too hard' and sometimes comes off appalling. Perhaps he isn't a good actor or maybe the director has failed on this one occasion to evaluate him and bring out the best in him. It doesn't help either that the fight scenes are edited in such a way that expounds on the lack of real action. Sometimes it's even funny to watch, instead of thrilling.
The average performances from Fara and Mawi are further complimented by B Grade acting from Cat Farish, Adibah Nor, Bob Lokman, Accapan, Corrie Adam Lee, Hafizuddin Fadzil, Sazzy Falak and Aziz M. Osman. The lack of impact falls squarely on the director's hands as one would think it couldn't be too difficult to get these stars to make this movie better.
The CGI work is also amateurish and fails to give a sense of realistic cinema, especially on the character Jin Tan. The colour palette of the movie goes some way towards saving the movie, with its bizarre costumes and otherworldly background. However, the movie's decent plot has not been translated well to the big screen and some sharper direction is glaringly lacking.
As we know it, "Jin Notti" is by no means a good movie but we can excuse the young director for it is his maiden effort. We hope he manages to polish his skills in the near future.
