Terim set to quit Turkey


Turkey coach Fatih Terim has announced that he will most likely quit following his team's semi-final defeat at the hands of Germany.


The 55-year-old coach said he would stick by his word and seek a job at a European club after ending his second spell in charge of the national team.

"Most probably after speaking to the federation president and the players I will choose to say this is what I have done," he said after the match.

"I had declared earlier I would not be working in Turkey. I am a man who keeps my promises. So I will most probably go back to a European country."

Terim was magnanimous in defeat, congratulating Germany on their 3-2 victory in Basel, which came in the dramatic late style which had seen turkey themselves progress so far in the tournament.

"I congratulate Germany for their win and wish them success for final but I am proud of my players and think their will to play well, and the technical support, all came together and they were able to show the world what a good team they were.

"I think we are leaving as the most colourful team of the tournament. We can say we were almost there, but that is part of football as well.

"I never used suspended or injured players as an excuse. I said I'd have 11 players out there and I had 11 players.
