Ramón Calderón Announces His Resignation

Ramón Calderón has announced his resignation as Real Madrid president at a press conference this evening.
Speaking to the mass media, Calderón denied that it was something he was forced to do, but rather, something he chose to do.
"Contrary to the views of all the board members, I have decided to relinquish the presidency with the hope that the delivery of my head,
that has been persecuted since the start of my term in office, will help to pacify a madding, convulsive crowd," he declared.
"I leave with my head held high, with a clear conscience, and with the serenity of someone who always served as a target. Vicente Boluda will now occupy my position.
"I want to express my firm desire to support without any reservation whoever should succeed me in office, and I will not provide any obstruction."
New president, Vicente Boluda, did speak briefly at the conference, where it was also announced that there will be elections held in the summer.
The main focus was on Calderón though, who spoke with emotion in his voice, and appeared to be close to tears to one point, as he thanked his family for their support.
"I want to thank my family - especially my wife, Teresa, for her capacity of suffering, and accepting in silence the problems deriving from my position - as well as my children," he said.
"I am leaving with a clear conscience and with clean hands. The triumph of those who have got into my head is a triumph of evil and injustice. I express my deepest gratitude to my board, who have shown loyalty that can't be matched."
Calderón took over as Real Madrid president back in 2006 but his reign has come under massive scrutiny lately following suspected rigging at the Assembly last month.
It has been reported by Marca that the former president used 'non-members' to vote for him, and then, even worse, in the discovery of the crime, lied about knowing the guilty parties.
However, he denied today that he has done anything wrong, and said any claims about his involvement in any rigging, are untrue.
"I am not a coward; nor do I have anything to hide. I repeat solemnly that what they have read and heard about my involvement in the last Assembly is false," he assured the press.
"Now this club has had five titles in two years and the accounts are the most brilliant in the club's history, in terms of both revenues and profits."
The era of Calderón may well be tainted by the recent allegations but the success that the club has achieved under him should not be forgotten.
Whoever steps into this presidential shoes after the elections in the summer will certain have a tough task to follow, despite the off-the-pitch scars that this regime wears so blatantly.
