Navy to Add Unmanned Vessels
![](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_En-sxfOkXP8/S_feV1HwV8I/AAAAAAAAF1A/Uj9vPOikvMw/s400/Unmmaned+vessels.jpg)
THE Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) may soon add to its arsenal unmanned underwater vessels that detect and destroy sea mines.
The remotely controlled minehunter Meredith, developed here by DSO National Laboratories, is now being tested by the navy. It will be showcased at the Navy Open House at Changi Naval Base on Saturday and Sunday.
In an interview ahead of the open house, the Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong, said unmanned systems, a key part of modernising the RSN, can be assigned tasks 'too dangerous and difficult' for servicemen.
Having unmanned systems in operation also extends the fighting capability of the navy's ships, he added.
The 2.5m-long Meredith can operate at 100m depths for up to five hours and hit speeds of up to six knots. Its battery of electronics can scan the seabed off Singapore, which sits on a sea lane - one of the world's busiest - plied by more than 1,000 vessels daily.
The RSN has two types of unmanned surface vessels, neither of which is a mine hunter: One, the Protector, was deployed in the Arabian Gulf in 2004 and the other, the 7m-long Spartan, has been earmarked for the fight against maritime piracy and terrorism. Kitted with anti-armour missiles for offensive action, it enables warships to inspect suspicious vessels. |

Not too long ago, SAF announced that she will be upgrading her Leopard 2A4 tanks. I present to you the first blurry pictures of the "Leo 2SG". It looks like SAF went for the IBD EVO design armour upgrade. Other upgrades mentioned include(from Defencetalk OPSG forumner);
1) They will retain the L44 120mm gun for the time being while retaining the possbility of upgrading them to the L55 gun in future. SAF feels that the L44 will be more than adequate currently given our own threat scenarios. Instead, the SAF will leverage on new versatile kinetic energy and multiple purpose ammunition(advanced kinetic energy rounds and programmable fuze, multi-purpose rounds) to hit and kill targets.
2) New network-centric Battlefield management system to be installed so that the Leos are linked to the SAF`s over-arching battle network.(Already known)
3) New "data-bus" system for better connectivity(SAF`s UAVs and other network centric systems)
4) New Auxilliary Power Unit for better sustainability and power
5) New fire control system for enhanced lethality
6) New armour modules "all-round" for better protection;hence new look
7) New running gear to cater for new weight growth due to new armour; im guessing it will probably be in the range of 60-65 tons.

It seems that the SAF did not include the AMAP-ADS part. This could mean that the SAF may have decided to incorporate other active defense systems like the Trophy or Iron-Fist.
Singapore's Leo 2 should like this version;
Go here for the Leo 2A4 Evolution.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/24453674/Leopard-2-A4-Evolution
There is a Leo 2A5 and a Leo2A6. Singapore Leo 2s are yet another unique Leo 2 version. I suggest calling it Leo 2SG. lol
Sipri has recently reported that Singapore may have purchased as many as 182 Leo 2 tanks in total. This is much higher than the initial assumption of about 132-150 tanks in total. However, the 182 Leo 2 tanks would take into account of the extra "spare" tanks that Singapore purchased. Singapore may buy more in the near future. |

Itu betul. Countries will always want to buy arms. But selling overseas is never easy as the big boys are already established. sikit sikit dulu. |

Now that i think about it, I feel that it is also possible that the AMAP-ADS blocks could be slapped on when necessary as the armour add on is modular in nature. very interesting indeed. think lego blocks. The armour modules can be swapped and changed as required. |
