Revenge's Season 3 Premiere: A Deadly Illness, a Hasty Exit, Two Big Left Turns and 7 More Teases
Kimberly Roots 8 hours ago
We’ve reached that glorious time of summer when the networks let loose with screeners of returning shows’ season premieres. The latest to land on our virtual desk: ABC’s Revenge. Though we’re risking serious Red Sharpie action, here are a few things we’ve just gotta share.
First and foremost — as promised — the hour makes clear that certain convoluted plot lines from last season have gone the way of Frank and Lydia. In fact, fans will be happy to note that Emily flat-out declares, “Let’s never say the words ‘Carrion’ or ‘Initiative’ ever again.”
The ABC series’ previously released promo made it clear that a wedding gown-clad Emily takes some hot lead to the gut, then tumbles off a boat. I can tell you that the episode opens with that shocking hook, then rewinds to the previous Memorial Day weekend — which is months after the events of the Season 2 finale. Now, let’s see if we can’t tease things just a little bit more, shall we?
• Victoria’s relationship with her long-lost son, Patrick (played by Smallville‘s Justin Hartley) is Really. Not. OK.
• However, the fact that Hartley spends an entire scene wearing only a towel? Totally OK in our book.
• Within moments of Daniel running into a French hottie named Margaux (Welcome, Pan Am‘s Karine Vanasse!), the word “virgin” and the phrase “not wearing a bra” are bandied about.
• A major character is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
• Charlotte, who several characters note has had a trying year, could give One Life to Live‘s Adriana “Bitchy Bangs” Cramer a run for her nickname.
• Emily makes good on a huge debt to Nolan.
• Jack and Emily’s first scene together contains two giant, intriguing left turns that I did not expect.
• Em enlists [SPOILER]‘s help to rid the Hamptons of Ashley Davenport. But will it stick?
• Toward the end of the hour, the “double infinity” sign comes into play in a surprising way.
• A major character seems to have switched allegiances since last we saw him/her.
"Revenge returns with a final ultimatum. Friends will turn, enemies will fall and new threats will rise." There's the much buzzed-about scene of Emily getting shot on a yacht while wearing a wedding dress (who is she marrying?!), but there's so much more. Emily plotting with Nolan to "have the wedding of the century" and "take down Victoria once and for all"; Daniel getting seduced; Victoria teaming with Aiden and saying amazingly villainous things like "Together we're going to destroy that little bitch"; and Nolan asking what we all want to know: Who's next to get that red sharpie?
There's also Emily and Jack kissing, Charlotte looking up to no good, Conrad keeling over and Nolan being Nolan -- both in a vest with no shirt on, and parachuting into a party. Because, of course.
Watch out, rich and evil people of the Hamptons -- "Revenge" is coming back for Season 3. And Emily remains undeterred in her quest to destroy the Grayson family in as many awful ways as possible. The season premiere, "Fear," wastes no time before getting to the takedowns.
By the time the episode ends, just about every Grayson hates every other Grayson and at least one of them is staring death in the face.
Like every other season of "Revenge," the premiere begins with a flash-forward. Season 3's awful event seems to show Emily (Emily VanCamp) getting shot in a wedding dress and falling into the water. There will be many episodes before any more information will come about this.
In the meantime, here are five spoilers to get you ready for another year of "Revenge":
1. When Season 3 begins, neither Daniel (Josh Bowman) nor Emily have seen Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) for six months. Where is she? The full answer requires a lot of spoiler-filled explanation -- let's just say Victoria's first appearance involves slow-motion horseback riding.
2. "NolCorp has gone the way of the flip-phone ..." Nolan (Gabriel Mann) comes into Season 3 with a new outlook on life. He's even willing to take risks like skydiving!
3. Whatever you think of "Revenge," you cannot hate Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) shouting "Arctic pools! Arctic pools!" at a hapless flunky.
4. Jack (Nick Weschler) has turned into quite the liar in his time away from the Hamptons. His lies and anger do have the positive effect of giving the audience a date for Emily's post-bullet swan dive.
5. A new character named Monique asks Emily what she does for a living during a party. The response pretty much explains the entire show: "I work for a lot of different charities. Making sure people get what they deserve."
"Revenge" Season 3 premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m.
1. Jack is back... But he is SO not in a forgiving mood..yikes!!
2. Victoria and her long lost son are re-united, but there is not much revelation behind the reunion..but i have to say their relationship is so, wieird.
3. Nolan..ah, Nolan..cute as ever, but now he stands up for himself a lot more...as he said, "I am Nolan 2 point...NO."
4. Is it must me or did anyone else find Conrad's way of "speaking" irritating???? Like, hello, please don't sound like nails on a chalkboard!!! Dah la suara tu tak jelas, konon nak lower kan lagi his voice tu..eww!!
5. Aidan is back, getting chummy with the enemy....sheesh..
‘Revenge’ Recap: Aiden Works With Victoria To Take Down Emily
Also, is Emily rethinking her revenge agenda? Say it ain’t so!
Emily (Emily VanCamp) may have quickly pulled out the red Sharpie to take care of Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) on last week’s season premiere, but on the Oct. 6 episode of Revenge, she actually hesitated in taking down a new victim! She may be rethinking her revenge roller coaster of doom, but Aiden (Barry Sloane) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) are right on her heels!
Looks like Aiden is infiltrating himself deeply onto Team Victoria because he was all about taking down Emily. Victoria was understandably confused about his sudden change of heart, but Aiden told her that Emily “betrayed me in a way you couldn’t imagine.” Aiden admitted he had worked with Emily and Nolan and dropped a hint about the connection between David Clarke and Emily. Victoria didn’t catch it, but she was still wary about Aiden’s intentions. If Aiden is actually playing Victoria, he is doing a great job. He legitimately sounds like he wants Emily to burn.
Forgive The Hamptonites, Father, For They Have Sinned
Until Daniel got a job in the city, Emily had to hand over her infinity box to Nolan. The next person up on her red Sharpie hit list? Paul Whitley (James LeGros), another partner of Conrad’s (Henry Czerny) who helped take down David Clarke. Paul turned to the church after the scandal to atone for his sins.
Emily and Daniel (Joshua Bowman) visited Paul’s church and she wanted him to preside over their wedding. Upon this revelation, Paul headed straight to the Graysons to let Victoria and Conrad know about the wedding news. Paul had no protest to it, but Victoria wanted him no where near the ceremony.
Meanwhile at The Stowaway, Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) helped babysit Carl for Jack (Nick Wechsler). Charlotte continued to lament Declan and faux-Amanda’s death. “How can such bad things happen to good people?” she asked. Oh Charlotte, you have no idea.
Emily and Daniel had dinner with Margot and Daniel was pretty desperate for a job. Emily ran into Charlotte, who was beyond angry that Emily told Victoria about her mom’s supposed affair. Emily blamed it on Ashley (poor girl) and she denied, denied, denied.
You Bake Some, You Lose Some
Apparently, Nolan (Gabriel Mann) got his chef status on while in prison. He baked up a batch of blueberry muffins that were regifted twice in just one day! Emily gave them to Victoria who gave them back to Nolan when she stopped by his new home. She basically just sniffed around and confirmed Aiden’s claim that Nolan was hiding something.
Meanwhile, Aiden broke into Emily’s house to find further proof for Victoria of Emily’s secrets. He couldn’t find the infinity box, so he took the next best thing. The deed to Nolan’s house with Emily’s name on it. He gave it to Victoria to prove they are working together. This will not end well. However, I have to believe that if Aiden was truly against Emily, he would have just told Victoria her true identity.
Emily confronted Jack while he was thinking about getting a new dog. Emily was worried about Charlotte and wanted his help. He questioned why she is OK with hurting innocent people like Charlotte just for the sake of revenge. He has a point, but without this major plot point there would be no show. Case closed.
Daniel was offered the publishing job with Margot and his first bonus was a stripped-down Margot. Viewers were left wondering whether or not Daniel took the very naked bait, but have no fear Daniel fans, he did not. Too bad Emily wouldn’t have cared otherwise.
Welcome To The Family
Victoria introduced Patrick to the rest of the Grayson family. Let’s just say, it wasn’t pretty. Patrick discovered that Victoria wasn’t always so lovey dovey toward her firstborn son and he wasn’t too happy about it. I can’t figure Patrick out. He seems so genuine, which obviously makes him fake. I need to know his hidden agenda!
Oh, and Emily managed to drug Conrad again without anyone noticing. Way to go, Ems.
Charlotte headed back to Jack’s and confessed that she blames herself for Declan’s death. Jack dropped the bomb to Charlotte that Conrad knew about the explosion at Grayson Global that killed Declan. Charlotte then proceeded to tell her father that he deserves to die. Don’t speak too soon, Charlotte.
Nolan tried to have a “come to Jesus” meeting with Emily about forgiveness, but she is not about that life. Nolan proved once again that he is a brother to Emily and even said he loved her. Aw! This was all for naught because Emily was determined to take down Father Paul.
And she did — brilliantly. During Father Paul’s service, Emily dropped major blackmail into the donation bowl. However, after a talk with Father Paul and the realization that he truly had atoned for his past sins, she started to rethink her revenge agenda. She saw herself in the children that Father Paul was helping and she tried to stop the blackmail from surfacing, but it was too late. Father Paul was fired anyway. Pull out the red Sharpie, Ems!
After a heart-to-heart with Conrad, who had suffered the wrath of Charlotte earlier, Emily realized she could fix the Father Paul situation. By saving Father Paul, she could use him to convince Conrad to confess to everything! Praise!

On episode 3 of "Revenge" season 3 titled, "Confession," Emily Thorne's threat grows as she sees Aiden show up with Victoria at Nolan's housewarming party in the Hamptons. In a promo video posted Oct. 6 on YouTube, Emily asks Adien what he's doing at the party after she spots him arm-in-arm with Victoria. He tells her he misses the Hamptons. Victoria snidely remarks, "Who wouldn't."
Victoria doesn't give up trying to convince Daniel that Emily is no good. She tells him Emily was sleeping with Aiden when they were engaged. In another "Revenge" spoilers clip, Emily tells Daniel she doesn't know why Aiden came back, but she chose him.
A heated dispute between Victoria and Conrad unfolds. Conrad insists he's coming clean about everything, but Victoria is upset that he didn't consider the "ramifications" of his actions. She's most likely referring to his admission about being The Initiative all along. She throws expensive things around the house and shatters them during their fight, yelling at Conrad, "I swear it'll be the last thing you do!"
In other scenes following in rapid succession, a car is wrecked with someone on the ground outside the burning vehicle, someone is about to hurt Conrad, and Emily has a look of horror on her face. Will someone die in episode 3?
"Revenge" season 3, episode 3, "Confession" airs Sunday, Oct. 13 on ABC at 9 p.m., ET/PT.
