sori la kawan.....just kidding la.....

u know what????
from the begining ur post sound a bit arrogant....i know bcoz SG is ur country...but look at ur statement here:

The AMAP-ADS and Iron-Fist/Trophy can be mounted as needed and I think we may see them only in a real conflict. The yet to be upgraded Leo 2A4s are in the picture too. I  must say Singapore now has the most powerful tank in South east asia and Oceania. Even more powerful than the Aussie Abrams M1A1 tank.  Imagine the current 182 (of these) monster tanks with possibly more to come in the future. Replacing AMx-13 tanks mah.    The message is clear. Do not take on Singapore armour in head-on clash. Or rather avoid a head-on clash with the SAF.

no offence bro

i bet there will be no head-on clash whatsoever..
(attacks from the flank and rear excluded )
and all those tanks will be scrapped bila sampai masanya..
just like amx-13, and the winner is.. syarikat besi buruk..

sekarang punya tank design philosophy, turret punya wall tu tegak je ke? bukannya pipih and slanted macam merkava? kan ke senang nak penetrate kalau tegak macam tu?

yer kah?

The front part is actually diagonally slanted.Plus the front part may be equipped with AMAP-ADS additionally.

As for the sides, you do realise how thick the add on armour is. This is on top of the original Leo 2a4 armour. There might not even be a necessity. It looks thicker than the Abrams and Challenger 2s. definitely thicker than the lerlerc. It looks like the SAF just slapped large rectangular rocks on the side of the turret. Anyway, the armour is modular.

It may look different in actual combat with more active-defense add-ons like the AMAP-ADS.

Great vid , Alfie, I hv been posting it every where.

Screen shot of the side of Leo 2A4 EVO:

I took them to see whether there is armour plating at the top of the turret, anyway , it is not really conclusive, you guys be the judge.

2 years ago, a report from Germany that IBD Leo 2A4 EVO upgrade was a request from a particular customer, who has limitation of 60 metric tons for the upgrades.

That upgrades includes additional armour plating at the top of the turret as well as bottom of the hull for mine protection, AMAP-ADS is not part of it.

If Singapore was that customer, then the above should be included.

wow........
AMX-13 mari hibahkan kat indonesia. Biar semua senang. SG senang sebab indonesia hanya punya tank tua jadi tak perlu khawatir kena serang. Indonesia senang sebab tak perlu beli.....

Win-win solution lah tu......

Indonesia already operates Amx-13. They are still good for fire support actions with its 75mm cannon which is good enough to take out any IFV/APC in the region. But like i said, it seems that our AMX-13 tanks will be scrapped when retired from service.

Rupernyer Leo2 EVO sekarang dipanggil Leo 2 Revolution due to collaboration di antara IBD dan Rheinmetall. Nampaknyer Singapore's upgraded Leo 2 aderlah adalah satu versi Leo 2 Revolution with SAF's own additions of course like our own Battlefield Management System. Anyway, specs Leo 2 Revolution is just out of this world. This is a killer tank.

Read all about it here; http://www.rheinmetall-detec.de/index.php?fid=5371&lang=3

There are essentially 2 organizations which offer upgrades to Leo 2 tanks. Krauss-Maffei Wegmanns(KMW) and Rheinmetall-IBD. KMW has been offering upgrades for some time resulting in the Leo 2A5/2A6 and now Leo 2A7 varients. These tanks are noted distinctively by the wedge shaped frontal turret armour.

Leo 2A5 pic

Rheinmetall-IBD is relatively new and thier upgrade is called Leo Revolution which was originally called Leo Evolution(under IBD alone) but now comes with more bells and whistles with the involvement of Rheinmetall. Singapore's varient is almost certainly derived from the Leo Revolution.

             Singapore's Leo 2 Revolution

So, what`s the difference?

From visual differences, it seems that KMW's upgrade is meant for good overall protection. While Rheinmetall-IBD's upgrade is more geared towards urban warfare in addition to good overall protection. The other thing to note is that the Leo Revolution seems more network-centric so it fits right into Singapore's net-work centric battle systems.

So Singapore made the right choice in selecting a tank which is useful for the kind of combat scenarios it will be facing.

It is obvious that Singapore has dynamic planners who constantly monitor conflicts around the world and learn and make neccessary changes/improvements. In the present case, tanks could use better protection for urban warfare.

@Southpark, you are saying that because the lifting lug on the turret is so apparent, there is no top armour?
Bingo!!!

Sidenote:  Notice that SG Leopard is slightly different from the package offered by Rheinmetall.  In particular the independent thermal sight.
- Either we did not get the full package (incl. new thermal sight, digital systems, etc) but only the add-on armor; or
- The transformation of our Leopards are not fully completed yet, hence no top add-on armor
A more clearer view of the top armour of both versions of leopard 2.

The armour set is actually modular and can be attached and detached. This includes the top turret roof armour add-on. But that armour is meant to deal more with sharpnel, grenades, etc. Eventually, the original turret roof armour will the main armour to stop a top-attack.

However, the best top turret roof defence is actually active defense systems like Trophy, Iron-Fist, AMAP-ADS. In fact, I do not see the need of a modular roof armour if you are already using such active defense systems. ;)

Unless the SAF declares it officially, it is hard to know in detail the internal upgrades. Among other declared upgrades, it is officially known as it is declared by the Chief of army is that the firing systems will be changed/upgraded.  It is also officially known that Singapore Leo 2s will be network centric and using Singapore's Battlefield Management System. So, we already know that a high level of digitization is involved.

SAF does not need and will never show all her cards. It is SAF's way.
